You never go downstairs, you lay below, and if you are going up from one deck to another, you lay topside. If you are going up the mast or into the rigging you are going aloft.....................

Theory shows that at high Froude numbers, the transverse portion of the Kelvin wave is virtually eliminated, reducing the wave resistance to low Froude number values. This leads to the idea that to significantly reduce wave resistance, a ship should operate at large Froude numbers, thereby surpassing the limiting hump. The idea is analogous to a supersonic jet overcoming wind resistance by surpassing the sound barrier.

Sure thing Moneyguy... You stand up the mailbouy watch, Seahawk can crank down the mast. I'll go looking for the skyhook, 50 yds of shoreline and an HT punch. Should I head down to the weld shop or ER09 for the last one?

Technically it indicates toward the centerline of the ship from prow to stern. On the surface ships that I have been on, there is a passageway that runs along most of the ship fore to aft that we call amidships. The other direction is athwartships meaning port to starboard spanning the deck.

I am a squid, bubblehead, submariner! I was on two boats, the SSBN 726, and the SSBN 729, which are now SSGNs.

I left Bangor in 1999. I would move back there in a heartbeat. From Bangor, I was lucky to be able to get stationed in Rotin' Groton.

I miss the food: Nairobi Trail Markers, Buffalo Scabs, 3X5 Cards, White Death/Plastic Cow, and Bug Juice.
