Thanks, Stijn. Had to work at it a bit - my system is set up to kill scripting.
Signed.

Not quite. I guess how you view killing depends on your life experiences.

Nostril Cheese 04-17-2007 02:52 PM

ever been around a beef slaughterhouse, Jim? I have.

Don't see people rallying to save the cows.

Jim727 04-17-2007 02:55 PM

Been around VietNam. I'm a vegetarian.

Pigs or chickens as well as cows - seen hundreds per hour killed. They know whats about to happen and they all die by bleeding to death.

My Son and I watched Man vs the Wild on the Discovery Channel. We saw the guy pull the head off a little garter snake and slurp down the body. He then threw a cedar stick at a rabbit, broke its neck. He then pulled off the fur and dressed it, scewered it and roasted it.

Food ain't pretty.

I have seen dogs, rabbits, and pigs caged up in hospital research laboratories. They were waiting to be operated on and then euthanized. 10 years later, I still have nightmares of those places.. all the barking, the sounds, the moaning.. somehow they knew.

What we do to animals is pathetic. What moral authority do we have to take dogs/cats as pets while slaughter cows, lambs, and pigs in the millions? Animals just want to survive, eat , breathe, and live like we humans want to live.

some animals need to eat other animals in order to survive. we as humans don't need to eat meat to survive. There's plenty of protein in almonds, etc..

I'm okay with eating animals. I haven't found a logical way to decide on this issue, it seems to come pretty much down to personal ethics and choice. But I note that almost all of the animals we eat would not live at all, either individually or as a breed/species, were they not raised for food.

I'm not okay with treating animals badly when they are alive, or kiling them in a prolonged and painful manner, though I grant that most ways of killing will cause some pain.

Almonds aren't nearly as tasty on the grill though. I'll stick to my semi-weekly tri tip roast thanks. Almonds are a great snack while watching TV though.

That video of the Dolphin slaughter is disturbing but as others have said I would say the same if I saw video of a cow/pig/lamb/etc... slaughter house. Dolphins are no different than tuna or beef to me - though to my knowledge I have not consumed Flipper yet. Mmmmmm spicy tuna hand rolls...

Worse is the shark fishing. They scoop them up, lop off the fins, then throw them back in the water to die...

Not in me. The food chain is what it is. Everyone who thinks eating meat is wrong because it kills is a moral relativist because eating plants kills too. Fruits and vegetables are every bit as alive as mammals, fish, birds, reptiles and amphibians. Ditto for using anti-bacterial soap. Bacteria are alive. Ditto for using antibiotics. Living requires killing.

It's one thing to kill an animal and eat it. It another to torture it. That's what they are doing here. It's the torture I object to more than anything. Put a bullet in their heads before you cut them open while they are still alive, suffering, suffocating, writhing in pain.
