Looking to buy a BMW 2000CS???

Being a Porsche guy this is somewhat foreign territory for me. Are their any pointers/ tips I should follow or other forums to frequent? I also like the 2800 & 3.0 CS's so they aren't out of the picture just yet.

I posted this question in the BMW section but haven't gotten any replies.

I am also curious about possible engine swaps/ upgrades.

Thanks,
Wayne

I know a guy that might want to help...he has been asked to take a time out from this board, but if you PM me with your email address, I'll ask if he wants to help.
You'll be glad you did, he knows older BMW's.
Just don't ask for any help on a Lincoln Continental

rust is your main concern.

Other than that, you may have trouble finding fuel injection components. I believe the earlier ones are MFI.

A CS isn't injected, a CSi is.

The majority of the 2800s and 3.0s that you'll find here in the US are carb cars.

Rust is the *huge* problem on these, like said above, esp. if you are talking about any of them outside of maybe Southern California.

You said 2000CS, which is an earlier version of the 2800 and 3.0's. The 2000CSs have a kind-of funny looking front end. Judge for yourself...

I don't believe that the 2000CS's were that common, and so it may not be a good idea to buy one for the sake of swapping in another motor. It's most likely worth more in near-stock condition since it was a critical first-version model for the later CSs. Swapping in a non-stock motor would be kind of like buying a 1966 911 SWB and swapping in an SC motor.

Of course the 2800 & 3.0's are a truly great looking machine, and if I could afford a properly maintained version I think it would be a no brainer.

What I like about the 2000 is it's unique face, smaller package, and relatively rare stature. It is one of those cars you don't see often, but isn't worth a huge amount of money so modifying it's state isn't a real concern. I think an s14 engine should fit nicely, and parts for those engines are not as hard to come by. I don't think an L6 would fit without major modification so that's out of the picture.

I am looking to buy something in about a year and I just want to get all the critical data before I take the plunge. If something presents itself before that then great.

I have added a couple of pics of some inspirational vehicles.

Forgot to add an E9 car to the mix. This one has an M5 engine.

Check this out...

This thing was awesome. It ws at Crystal Cove last year. A labor of love, to say the least. IIRC, the guy had a website detailing it's recreation - a "What if BMW made a 3.0 Uber Car" kind of resto.
