I'm leaving things alone....
but there ain't no sunshine when she's gone.

Its not warm when she's away

LA proved too much for the man
[He couldn't make it] So he's leavin' the life he's come to know [He said he's goin'] He said he's goin' back to find Ooh, what's left of his world The world he left behind Not so long ago |
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
It's not warm when she's away Ain't no sunshine when she's gone And she always gone too long anytime she goes away Wonder this time where she's gone Wonder if she's gone to stay Ain't no sunshine when she's gone And this house just ain't no home Anytime she goes away And I know, I know, I know, I know I know, I know, I know, I know I know, I know, I know, I know I know, I know, I know, I know I know, I know, I know, I know I know, I know, I know, I know I know, I know Hey I'll leave the young thing alone But ain't no sunshine when she's gone Ain't no sunshine when she's gone Only darkness everyday Ain't no sunshine when she's gone And this house just ain't no home Anytime she goes away Anytime she goes away Anytime she goes away Anytime she goes away |
Had the same thing years ago, tried to contact her...
Operator, well could you help me place this call? See, the number on the matchbook is old and faded. She's living in L. A. with my best old ex-friend Ray, A guy she said she knew well and sometimes hated. Isn't that the way they say it goes? Well, let's forget all that And give me the number if you can find it, So I can call just to tell 'em I’m fine and to show I've overcome the blow, I’ve learned to take it well -- I only wish my words could just convince myself That it just wasn't real, but that's not the way it feels. Operator, well could you help me place this call? Well, I can't read the number that you just gave me. There's something in my eyes, you know it happens every time -- I think about a love that I thought would save me. No, no, no, no -- that's not the way it feels. Operator, well let's forget about this call -- There's no one there I really wanted to talk to. Thank you for your time, ah, you've been so much more than kind. And you can keep the dime. No, no, no, no -- that's not the way it feels. |

There are oceans of feelings between us
Currents that take us and sweep us away That's why we seldom have seen us In the light of a cold hard day Lots of new friends with the same old answers Open your eyes You might see If our lives were that simple We'd live in the past If the phone doesn't ring It's me If the phone doesn't ring You'll know that it's me I'll be out in the eye of the storm If the phone doesn't ring You know that I'll be Where someone can make me feel warm It's too bad we can't turn And live in the past If the phone doesn't ring It's me I've had good days and bad days And goin' half mad days I try to let go but you're still on my mind I've lost all the old ways I'm searchin' for new plays Puttin' it all on the line Lots of new friends with the same old problems Open your eyes you might see If our lives were that simple We'd live in the past If the phone doesn't ring It's me If the phone doesn't ring You'll know that it's me I'll be out in the eye of the storm If the phone doesn't ring You know that I'll be Where someone can make me feel warm It's too bad we can't turn And live in the past If the phone doesn't ring It's me It's me, it's me It's me, it's me It's me, it's me It's me, it's me If it takes all the future We'll live through the past If the phone doesn't ring It's me |
It was raining hard in 'Frisco,
I needed one more fare to make my night. A lady up ahead waved to flag me down, She got in at the light. Oh, where you going to, my lady blue, It's a shame you ruined your gown in the rain. She just looked out the window, and said "Sixteen Parkside Lane". Something about her was familiar I could swear I'd seen her face before, But she said, "I'm sure you're mistaken" And she didn't say anything more. It took a while, but she looked in the mirror, And she glanced at the license for my name. A smile seemed to come to her slowly, It was a sad smile, just the same. And she said, "How are you Harry?" I said, "How are you Sue? Through the too many miles and the too little smiles I still remember you." It was somewhere in a fairy tale, I used to take her home in my car. We learned about love in the back of the Dodge, The lesson hadn't gone too far. You see, she was gonna be an actress, And I was gonna learn to fly. She took off to find the footlights, And I took off to find the sky. Oh, I've got something inside me, To drive a princess blind. There's a wild man, wizard, He's hiding in me, illuminating my mind. Oh, I've got something inside me, Not what my life's about, Cause I've been letting my outside tide me, Over 'till my time, runs out. Baby's so high that she's skying, Yes she's flying, afraid to fall. I'll tell you why baby's crying, Cause she's dying, aren't we all. There was not much more for us to talk about, Whatever we had once was gone. So I turned my cab into the driveway, Past the gate and the fine trimmed lawns. And she said we must get together, But I knew it'd never be arranged. And she handed me twenty dollars, For a two fifty fare, she said "Harry, keep the change." Well another man might have been angry, And another man might have been hurt, But another man never would have let her go... I stashed the bill in my shirt. And she walked away in silence, It's strange, how you never know, But we'd both gotten what we'd asked for, Such a long, long time ago. You see, she was gonna be an actress And I was gonna learn to fly. She took off to find the footlights, And I took off for the sky. And here, she's acting happy, Inside her handsome home. And me, I'm flying in my taxi, Taking tips, and getting stoned, I go flying so high, when I'm stoned. |

I can't get no satisfaction,
I can't get no satisfaction. 'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try. I can't get no, I can't get no. When I'm drivin' in my car and that man comes on the radio and he's tellin' me more and more about some useless information supposed to drive my imagination. I can't get no, oh no no no. Hey hey hey, that's what I say. I can't get no satisfaction, I can't get no satisfaction. 'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try. I can't get no, I can't get no. When I'm watchin' my TV and a man comes on to tell me how white my shirts can be. Well he can't be a man 'cause he doesn't smoke the same cigarrettes as me. I can't get no, oh no no no. Hey hey hey, that's what I say. I can't get no satisfaction, I can't get no girl reaction. 'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try. I can't get no, I can't get no. When I'm ridin' round the world and I'm doin' this and I'm signing that and I'm tryin' to make some girl who tells me baby better come back later next week 'cause you see I'm on losing streak. I can't get no, oh no no no. Hey hey hey, that's what I say. I can't get no, I can't get no, I can't get no satisfaction, no satisfaction, no satisfaction, no satisfaction. |

Please come to Boston for the spring time.
I'm stayin' here with some friends And they've got lots of room. You can sell your paintings on the sidewalk By a cafe where I hope to be workin' soon. Please come to Boston. She said, "No. You come home to me." And she said, "Hey, ramblin' boy, Why don't you settle down? Boston ain't your kind of town. There ain't no gold and There ain't nobody like me. I'm the number one fan Of the man from Tennessee." Please come to Denver with the snow fall. We'll move up into the mountains so far That we can't be found. And throw "I love you" echoes down the canyon And then lie awake at night until they come back around. Please come to Denver. She said, "No. Boy, would you come home to me?" And she said, "Hey, ramblin' boy, Why don't you settle down? Denver ain't your kind of town. There ain't no gold and There ain't nobody like me. I'm the number one fan Of the man from Tennessee." Now, this drifter's world goes 'round and 'round And I doubt it's ever gonna stop, But of all the dreams I've lost or found And all that I ain't got. I still need to lean to Somebody I can sing to. Please come to L. A. and live forever. California life if just too hard to break. I live in a house that looks out over the ocean. And there's some stars that fell from the sky Livin' up on the hill. Please come to L. A. She just said, "No. Boy, won't you come home to me?" And she said, "Hey, ramblin' boy, Why don't you settle down? L. A. can't be your kind of town. There ain't no gold and There ain't nobody like me. No, no, I'm the number one fan Of the man from Tennessee. I'm the number one fan Of the man from Tennessee." |
I was thinking of my old 930:(
Wonder if she's gone to stay Ain't no sunshine when she's gone And this house just ain't no home Anytime she goes away |
Gotcha...kind of like when your wife runs off in your pickup truck...you miss the truck.

Sorta, not to mention that song just absolutely stuck in my head once I thought of it this morning. Caught myself humming it in a meeting today:D

OK, makes sense now, I was afraid you were going all wishy/washy or something ;) :D
