Thats fairly high mileage but these bikes are made to be ridden, not sit in the garage. This engine is good for 200k or so, and would not let the mileage alone bother me.

Contact the owner, then call Marin BMW and ask them about the bike and how well it was taken care of. I would also ask them to do a PPI inspection on the bike if you are really interested.

Might also chat with Rick Lee. He has more experience than I do with the newer GS models. I am more into the R1100RS flavours.

Bike looks nice IMHO....

That price seems high for that bike that's out of warranty. New with a 3 year warranty they list for $16,200 with ABS and heated grips. It should have cross spoke wheels if you want to go off-road, too. 40,000 miles isn't very many for a clutch that's probably been on the highway a lot, so I wonder why that was replaced. Why buy a 2 year old bike with that many miles? That's the exception, not the norm. What options does it have and why is the valve cover scratched?

If you're interested in a GS, I'd suggest getting a baseline against the pricing of a new one. Call A&S in Roseville, San Jose BMW, and BMW of SF for their opinion of new and used pricing.

That price is too high. I am sure it is in good condition, but with that many miles/years he is way above the market.
