Houston Grand Prix
Anyone else going to the Houston Grand Prix?
I'll be leaving from Austin tomorrow to get to my hotel around noon, then to the event. Want to be able to check out the GT2 quals. I'm not a huge race fan, so I don't know the difference between a the races and classes and such, but I hope I'll learn a lot, and see a lot of cool stuff! I'll be packing a camera, so I'll post pictures when I can, likely after I get back from the event. (hopefully there will be many Grid Girls... woot!!)

Nice... I should be wearing a white ballcap (plain, with small 'porsche' embroidered on the back) and one of two white Porsche teeshirts.... don't know which seats we got in the grandstands, but I think my buddy and I are in row 8....
I won't be driving a P-car either, riding with my buddy to the hotel in either his TT or his Saab 93.

I'll be there. Maybe after we all look around today, we can find a place and time to meet tomorrow.

I'll be going on Sat. for the ALMS race. Wife b-day is Sunday and for some strange reason she didn't want to go to the race. I had grandstand seats last year but hardly used them. The best action I found was at the braking zone at the end of the front straight. We were standing what seemed to be dangerously close to the hot track with the cars thundering in from top speed. It was cool. I highly recommend that spot.

Alright....

I'll be there on Saturday as well, around 3. The weather should be nice this year. I work about 6 blocks away so I can hear them running. I might sneak away to watch some of the warmups today.

Also, if you are new to the area stay away from the places around Reliant, they SUCK! Service sucks. Depending on where you are staying, take Kirby off 610 and head north on Kirby until you run into the Rice Village. University & Kirby has good food, bars, micro breweries and a few clubs. It you stay on Kirby past 59 you'll run into Richmond which is loaded with more good places to eat.

Too bad they aren't racing on the specially designed "Crownless" streets the city put in a few years back....

We just had a long talk about that. The City of Houston does NOT know how to plan for stuff. Look at the train they put in for the homeless people!!
But I have heard this course is a little better, less 90 degrees.

It is absolutly a known fact the COH knows nothing about planning...thats why I live in Seabrook....
![]() From my understanding the course layout is a little better....but the drivers get beat to CR@P because the parking lot was never intended for speeds in excess of 15-20mph. just my 2 cents... Helmethead |

Alright....

Change your location to Seabrook! Home of the 15 MPH speed limit and 150 cops...

Yes, it was really rough. CART cars bottoming out in lots of spots. The PCA newsletter said there was a Porsche coral and said a drawing would be held allowing registered cars in the coral to venture out on the track. That would be a good thing. Cant remember the details.
