Is my wrist broken?

Went snowboarding 5 weeks ago, like others I fell multiple times on my wrists.

One of them was pretty hard. Felt sprained/broken. Of course, I didn't see a doctor.

It's been very slow to heal. After 5 weeks, it has maybe 80% flexibility, and still some pain. Just sitting here, it's fine, but if I bend it, it can cause pain. I tried to do a pushup (hands flat on ground), and at that angle it was impossible to put more than a couple of pounds of pressure on it.

The good news is that it is getting better every day, just very slow progress.

Can a sprain take that long to heal? Broken? After 5 weeks is it worth seeing a doc or just tough it out?

Could be either. You have a lot of bones/tendons/ligaments in that area. x-ray would give you a quick answer.

Did you have any swelling or discoloration at the time? If you fell on it multiple times you were certainly aggravating a bad condition. Even if it was broken, it is too late to do anything now.

Some physical therapy might help to regain full mobility and strength.

I was playing flag football in early February and we had a new QB that thought he was pro. He was throwing the ball as hard as he could every time and I had one bounce odd my index finger in a wierd way and I thought I just jammed it real good. Six weeks later it was still swollen and I could only bend it about 2/3 so I decided to see a doctor. Sure enough it was cracked pretty good on the joint and he put it in a splint 3 weeks ago. I go tomorrow to get follow-up xrays and see if I need to go to an orthopedic surgeon.

Bottom line - go get it checked out
