Anybody ever watch "How it's made"?

Well, I work at a large manufacturing facility that makes artificial joint replacements. The show is here today filming the process of making artificial implants. Not sure if they are going to focus on hips, knees, or both. Pretty cool huh? The episode should air sometime this coming winter.

Will we see the fabled Titanium Monkey on the show? :)

Joeaksa 04-27-2007 04:37 AM

Watch it all the time, excellent show.

How is the monkey by the way?

thrown_hammer 04-27-2007 04:47 AM

Probably won’t see the monkey on the show. He is doing well. I just moved to a different department and he was lost for a couple days. I found him hiding in a ridiculously large pink Cedar Point cup. He will be taking a road trip this Saturday to Davis Racing to drop off some parts. He rides in the truck well.

Jim,
I will bring the monkey to lunch in May.

I watch this show. I think it's the music that makes it addictive.

Love the show...I spent three years as the chief of flight test at the Sikorsky factory and really enjoyed the production process.

I honetly wish I had gone into industrial design:)

Like the show.....but.....I really wish they could spend more time showing how more intricate items are made. I think they spent 5 minutes showing how a helicopter is made. For some reason if you watch that show late at night, it is guaranteed to put you to sleep within 10 minutes.

Great! I'll see you in two weeks. :)

I'll start to watch again when they learn the difference between soldering and welding. They always call soldering welding and vice versa.

I think in few years they'll rename the show: 'Stuff that will soon be made in China".

I've got TIVO set to record every episode (not just new). After Spring Break vacation with the wife and kids, there were 40 shows recorded, of course, several of those were repeats I'd already seen.

TheMentat 04-27-2007 06:45 AM

One of my favorite shows... I was just thinking about starting a thread on it yesterday!

scottmandue 04-27-2007 06:53 AM

I think I caught it once or twice, I love those kind of shows (my friends claim my TV tuner is welded on the Discovery channel :D )

What network is carrying the show?

thrown_hammer 04-27-2007 06:58 AM

It will be on Discovery. Probably re-ran on Science. That's when I see them since I don't get Discovery.

scottmandue 04-27-2007 07:01 AM

Thanks, I'll check my listings.

Anyone here watch Made in America? Modern marvels?

It's that dude's voice! Bland. Neutral, almost monotone. Soporific. Is "Canadian" the word I'm looking for here? :D j/k

I can't stop watching an episode once I've started... it's like a murder mystery where I must know how it comes out!!

I am an absolute certified History Channel nut and have not missed many Modern Marvels episodes. What a great show.

I have seen a few 'how it's made' shows and enjoy them as well.

My three year old son is absolutely addicted to How It's Made. He doesn't want to watch Blue's Clues or Sesame Street anymore.

The problem is, he's asking me how they make maple syrup and ski jackets now. I have no idea. Aren't dads supposed to get to 5 or 6 years before they start feeling stupid?

He asked me how they make coal the other day. I said "well, they dig it out of the ground, and then..." He interrupted and said "That's called a MINE, daddy."

VINMAN 04-27-2007 07:14 AM

Great show. But really, they need new music!

trekkor 04-27-2007 07:15 AM

I enjoy "How it's made" very much.

I like that is fast paced and if a child watches they can enjoy it, too.

We watched a series of four episodes with our 3 and 4 year old extended family. We all loved it.

They did a tile making spot that I liked.

Yea, well you probably find constitutional debates boring too.
