Lotus Elise fatality in Austin TX

Apparently an active member of Elise talk met his end in Austin, TX recently. Very sad. I'm glad that we don't see/hear of more like this from this board or others.

An Elise duking it out with a GMC pickup and a Ford pickup, the little guy is usually going to lose.

I've never seen a 911 look that bad. Did you guys see Top gear when they tried and tried to kill an 911? They compared it to a tank.

Of course they didn't run that 911 into two full size pick-up trucks at "high speed".

I've seen a pick of a targa that looks like an accordion and also at least one pic of a 911 that is in more than one piece. With enough force you can tear anything in half.

I know of one 911 in Dallas was nearly ripped in two back in the 90's on Walnut Hill Ln. The front was nearly touching the back, and a butter knife could have completed the cut. A telephone pole got in the way, and the driver wasn't going a bazillion miles an hour. He did die though.

I could tell you about a fairly low-speed fatal crash in a brand new, (at the time), 1985 Carrera.

Don't mean to be a prick but this is the second one of these (DOA episodes) in two days and I fail to see what useful purpose this serves. I'm not trying to be PC and as an EMT, I can take anything that comes down the road (and have experienced it in real life as well). I'm trying to see any value in posting this information. I'm not objecting, just trying to see the logic.

I think I posted a reply to one of them myself so I am not guilt free when it comes down to participation.

As an EMT you probably don't need a reminder about what can happen on the roads Widgeon13, but for the rest of us, I think this helps reinforce the need for defensive driving. Driving becomes so commonplace, its easy to forget that in a split second it can all go wrong.

Having said that, I do always feel uncomfortable with the idea of posting pics of the carnage, but I do feel it has a positive affect.

Excellent point, I certainly agree. If that is the purpose then it is a worthy objective. I appreciate your thoughtful reply and certainly hope the message is well received by others.

Guess my perspective can be just a little too cynical at times.

This thread actually made me reflect on how stupid I had been in my 20's. The risks that I took without much thought to the potential consequences.

I renewed my promise to myself to keep a lid on it for me, my family and for the people that I share the road with.

I don't know what it is about flyweight Lotus cars and collisions...

That makes me think twice about getting one after school.

Speedy:(
