Some Pics From This Year's Annual Datsun Z Show in SoCal

Guys - I flew in from Colorado Springs to this year's incredible Datsun Z Show in SoCal.

The weather was purrrfect! The new Park venue was actually really cool, nice drive out there and I tip my hat to the staff for pulling off another killer show. I liked the shade of the trees and also the fact that all genres were clearly broken down by generation and grouped together.

My only gripe? No Datsun 510s, Skylines or other interesting old Datsuns were allowed to enter, when clearly they had the space and over the past years these cars were allowed to attend.

Sadly my camera's battery died and I missed about 20-30 shot I would have loved to have taken...

RHD beauty...Skyline RB engine conversions DO NOT get any cleaner than this, done by Vildini I believe..still on stock solid front discs!

The RHD car with the above Skyline RB engine RB25 engine conversion:

Another shot...WoW!:

Simply beautiful 600+hp Supra Powered 240Z:

Again:

Another Supra conversion as well:

These guys were in a club together and represented true JDM!

345 REAR tire...! Largest tire I have seen on a street 240Z!

The most unique car of the show...mid engined Altima VQ35 and 6speed in a 240Z from an '03 Altima..completed tube frame, fully running (he drove the car to the show). The builder is an engineer and just was really neat!

And the car the above conversion resided in:

I believe this car won best paint of the show:

The engine compartment of the above car:

Beautiful clean car:

In my opinion, the most impressive Skyline engine conversion of the day..this is a RB26 too, simply inspiring:

Awesome rally replica one off hood:

I loved this car, so subtle, not the subtle flares on the fenders...but really visually orgasmic..LOL!

Tough!

The grey 240 with the Supra conversion...mmmm....nice.... Steve and I were down in LA last weekend and went out to dinner. When we came out of the little restaurant, there was this lovely Z with the AZ plates. I really oogled that little honey. The brakes were to DIE for. Wonderful build. Love nicely done cars like this.

As an old Z fan and previous '72 240z owner, I have to say that most of those cars looked like crap to me. No doubt the engine bays/conversions looked well done, but all those bolt on flares looked like arse to me. I like the cleaner look of the few that were not flared or molested too heavily.

Thanks for posting those pics though.

From the pics it looks like it is very common for engine swaps in the old Z cars. Does anyone keep them stock? I mean I love the conversions just seems like a really nice restored stock one would have been the hit of this show. Just me?

Also with all these swaps do they use stock trannys? I mean those are some beast motors and if the stock trannys hold up to that abuse that is kind of impressive.

Let's see if I can answer some of your questions...

Firstly Yasir - Awesome E36...turbo too...what are the details on that monster! I will leave a W124 500e for dead for sure! What size Turbo and are you running stock internals? Love the SSRs on it too.

There were absolutely TONS of stock motor and just plain stock Z cars at the show, but I have seen enough of that over the years so did not photograph them.

The flares look great in my opinion, Nissan offered these exact ZG flares as a factory option and many of these cars are running a copy of these flares.

The cars with the Supra and Skylines engines are running the matching transmission.

My Z is putting down 300hp and I am running a stock tranny, just upgraded flywheel and clutch. Stock trannys are fine, so long as you do not dump the clutch and just roll-on the power in gear. Power shifting is a no-no. I have seen 400hp on a stock tranny.

This show was in Orange, CA

Glad you guys liked the pics.

Pics are back,

Hey I live in So Cal and would love to check this out next time it happens, do you have any info?

That 300ZX reminds me of one very late night driving my '94 V8 T-bird on the 91 freeway... I rolled up on one of those and calmly passed him... he rolled on a little and passed me... I pushed a little more on the throttle... pretty soon we were doing triple digits and neither car was breathing hard. I decided I wasn't in the mood to spend the night in jail if johnny law happened along so I backed down and let the 300Z disappear into the night.

Oh yeah, kids don't try this at home... take it to the track etc.

I miss my first car. A 1970 (technically 1969) 240Z. Notice the emblem on the rear pillar? The next year the emblem was just round without the 240Z emblazened across it. Easy way to spot the first year of car.

Serial number: HLS30-00057

Yep, 57th Z-car ever made.

Not until I bought Blkbird did I ever have that much fun in a car again. BTW. I'm the geek in the white sweater (no glasses). Think I was 20~ish... more than a few years back.
