History Channel on Super Heros
Just caught an episode that looked at the science of Spider Man. The show had spider experts, physicists, neurobiologists, virologists, genetic experts and Stan Lee. It was a tongue-in-cheek look at if it was at all possible that Spider Man could be real. Pretty darn look shot but it was really fun to watch. No one thought it really possible but they took a look at everything from his web spinning ability to his spidey sense. Pretty interesting show.
They just started a show on the history of Superman now... Anyone else catch these? |
They had one on comic books earlier.
In that show, they credited an anti-handgun issue of Batman for getting some sort of handgun ban passed in Virginia... |
They draw some interesting insights about the Superman story and history as well. They even looked at Smallville and Lois & Clark as well as the 4 Superman movies Christopher Reeves did.
Sort of an interesting statement they made towards the end - Comparing Superman and the Christ as well as Superman being a true American whose roots are alien. |

I took a course in Popular culture in high school. It basically dissected the "Silver Surfer" comics. We had to study the meaning of colors, the meaning of numbers, the meaning of names (and sexual themes thereof) and the bibilcal themes ever present in our popular culture. Very eye-opening.

This is supposed to be history?
What about REAL heroes? |
They History Channel has plenty on real heros. Just watch Dogfights some time. Some of the story's in there are unparalled heroism.
