Bug bombs? Advice please...
 

Hey all, I am already tired of all of the spiders making their webs each night in the show room. It's bad enough they build them in the corners of the windows, but today there were already some being built between the cars and the floor :(

My question is, do bug bombs leave an odor or residue? I really like the smell of the car interiors, and don't really want them smelling like pesticide. My other concern of course is any residue that may get left behind on any of the cars.

Can't really comment on your specific questions as I've never used a bug bomb. I can say, however, that you need to be careful about pilot lights and such when using them... people have literally destroyed their houses by building up a concentration of the stuff which then ignites and can take out your windows or even a wall.

Standard bug bombs usually use a very fine mist that leaves both a residue and a smell.

I use the Raid Fumigator instead and have had very good results. Instead of a fine mist of liquid, the fumigator emits a dry, poisonous smoke. I pay around $9 for a 3pack at my local DIY store.

I was told by my heating/cooling contractor that spiders only build webs in the presence of a draft. Get those drafts sealed up and that should reduce the number of webs. We sealed up our basement and we don't have any more spider webs down there at all. Centipedes eat spiders, so you could release some of those creepy crawlies to eat the spiders, but then you'd have to get rid of the centipedes!

Looks like birds, toads, and shrews like to eat centipedes. So you'll just need to bring in one of those...

Heard spiders like damp basements also.
Check the furnace humidity level setting/foundation drainage/roof vents and soffits.

Bug bombs often do not kill spiders. I am told spiders can even survive house tenting. I would hate to have my cars stink, and still have the spiders around. Bug bombs in the garage can kill an entire ant colony that was part of a 3month long science experiment if dad forgets they are in the garage- but that is another story:)

I checked for drafts this afternoon, and with the exception of a 1/8" square opening at the bottom of one side of the the overhead garage door, there aren't any. The room stays at a constant 65-67 degrees, partially due to the huge concrete slab, and the de-humidifier rarely puts pot a drop of water??

I think I am going to try the spider spray that goes around the outside of the foundation and see how that works. Of course, it doesn't help that I cant STAND spiders.

One way or another, I WILL be rid of them!
