funny after spending ~900$ on 915 transmission parts

So I bought a few rebuild parts for my 915, total ~900$
, so this part of the post allows me to make this post, the following may get this deleted by moderator.

I also own a VW with a 020 tranny, which is defacto standard 5-speed for 94-99 VWs. Ok the rebuild parts price is really funny in 2007 dollars!

And this is news? Welcome to the Porsche tax. I challenge you to find the 915 parts for a significantly lower price than Pelican at one of the discount parts sources that sells to the general public. Report back your findings.

OK, so if there's a cross reference in parts, let's see it! Or (as the says), what are you saying?

If you are trying to say that it is rediculous how much Porsche parts cost, then consider that they probably built a 100 times as many VW's, economy of scale is a wonderful thing.

Not really. He can be using a formal way of addressing a 2nd party that is written the same as the 3rd party.

Kind of "Thou speakth English?"

I'll take my Spanish lesson gracefully form the gentleman from Madrid.

BTW, you wanna go really OT, my former '71 S was delivered to its US buyer in Madrid. The owner's book showed 2 or 3 stamps from the dealer, the last one being at 5000 miles. Yes, miles, I'm sure it was a US spec car.

The story is that the car went to Germany after I sold it. So, it may be on its original ground somewhere over there.

Hmmmm, imports of foreign cars were subject to quotas in Spain until 1980 (Dictatorship + self-sufficient economy, you know the stuff). However in the 60s there was a significant US presence due to the strategic value of Spain in the cold war.

The US buyer was probably in the military since there were several US bases in the country. I doubt there was a Porsche dealer in Madrid (or Spain) in the early 70s, so the stamps were probably from a shop that did foreign cars for the lucky ones that could get past the quotas.

Besides foreign nationals, I bet only bullfighters and Julio Iglesias could afford a new 911 in the 70s

The cost of Porsche parts has little to do with economies of scale. The clutch kit for a 1972 Nissan 240Z is a quarter of the cost for the comparable kit for my 1972 911T.

911 Sachs Power Clutch, 911 (1972-86), Each $659.00

240Z Clutch Kit Exedy (OEM), $171.95

Could be worse...

I am at $3500.00 for a rebuild on a 901.

New bearings, syncros, sliders, and dog teeth.

This doesn't include the clutch parts either....

VW 020's are cheap, but they're weak. I've blown up two, and that's with DIESELS for frigs sake.

Sure, rebuild parts are inexpensive, but how many times do you want to do it?

I have nothing of value to contribute to this thread except for this. Noah's quote:

"I'm moving this to OT, because I have no idea what the original post says. The author appears to have either been extremely drunk or wearing mittens when he wrote it."

might have just ruined my laptop that's now full of Sam Adams.
