Do I really need to explain this purchase?
Just got this 13 amp beast with a reciprocating handle.
Wife: "Why do you need a Sawzall? Me: "'Cause I'm a man, baby!" http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1179252455.jpg |
Picked up one about six months ago. Cut a car in small pieces in about two hours...
Guess its a man thing... |
Never know when you might need one. I have used mine on a number of projects. With an assortment of blades it will cut darn nearly anything!!!
|
I bought one when I was doing work in the kitchen. Had to cut & raise the kitchen cabinets & replace a section of subflooring.
In the whole 2 week job, my wife was only around to witness about 10 minutes of the work. Of course, that would have to be when I cut through a hot water pipe. They cut fast, and they cut deep. I've learned to carefully scope out where (and what) I'm cutting. |
there is something disturbing about a surgeon owning such a tool...can't quite put my finger on it.
Oh, no wonder...some bastard cut it off! |
I'm tearing down a huge rusted awning in my back yard. Can't wait!
I'm supporting the whole structure with ropes then cutting the supports. I'll have the whole frame cut up and stuffed into the back of a pickup in no time. Woof! |
Oh, how many times has my 20 year old sawzall has saved my ass
|
13 Amps is great. Until the blade jams and your body does the reciprocating.
Use with caution. And enjoy it, it's a well built tool. |
My wife bought the same one for me a few years ago. For once she understood Man-Tool's. The sawzall, an axe demolition blade and a project is a beautiful combination.

Well worth having around the house and garage... |
Many animals use tools. But only men use power tools.
:D |
Moses, in my experience the question "Do you really need that too?!?" - is 9 out of 10 times something the husband ask himself. Note 'himself', because asking it out loud is not wise..

Whatever it takes...

It is now a blessed tool...go forth and destroy!!!;)
|
Get the Bosch blades for the reciprocating saw!!
|
Milwaukee's The Torch work well too. They are fire and rescue.
|
At Home depot they sell a Sawzall blade called "The Torch".
Oh, and don't think for a minute that one blade will do you. You need several. And...remember to unplug the power before changing blades. You do not want to become an "ER" story. |
|
Isn't it the blade that reciprocates and not the handle?
|
Great tool is all I can say. I've gone thru one in my career, but the Milwaukee is a tough animal. Yeah, don't let it bind, it will shake your shoulders out of their sockets. Stay loose and wear the damn glasses!
|
Used on on a sycamore root that was lifting my driveway.

decades ago, I cut a roof off of a house with one, we lifted the roof and added a second story to the house (it was only about a one year old roof and he wanted to save it.
|
I just bought one last week.
I bought a Craftsman 19.2 volt portable unit that accepts Milwaukee blades. It's been invaluable in removing my deck. I tried a jigsaw and a circular saw...nothing makes cuts as quickly. |
I lovingly refer to mine as "the murder weapon"
|
I have 3 - 2 milwaukees and 1 bosch.
They are very good tools. The cutting torch is also a good tool. |
This is a great thread. If you are a tool junkie and are looking for support / justification and a non guilt ridden mind then post here on Pelican for the kind of healthy support you really need and deserve.
|
busted up the worm drive gears on mine. (a milwaukee like the one pictured). i'm kinda hard on tools, but this thing couldn't even cut up a complete car without breaking. something about the reciprocating part that makes it weaker than a normal unit. went with a non-reciprocating one next and it's still alive after many years of abuse. use lenox demolition blades if you want to get your money's worth.
|
I find these saws very effective cutting a new doorway from office to office while at the same time cutting thru metal conduit that carry 1/2 inch thick of telephone lines connecting computers to main office and a few powerlines. Especially when they are halfway thru running 8-10 hrs of payroll processing and printing. . Sometimes it's the only tool to get the job done right.
|
I was just cutting fiberglass and ABS plastic so I got the 7 amp Harbor Freight unit (only $35 with coupon). It works, but had I the money the Milwaukee would of been my choice.
