BBC's John Sweeney and his on-camera journalistic meltdown...

Anyone see this story on CNN about BBC reporter Sweeney's confrontation with the Church of Scientology? It was good entertainment.

The photo (of Sweeney yelling) is a sample of the fireworks in the report.

Yeah, old L. Ron was a pretty sharp cookie. Set up "The Church" on a bet with one of his cronies as a joke. Very funny to me, but that means nothing really.

Apparently Lafaette Ron was a mess before he died:long hair and fingernails and a raving lunatic.

Before the "Church" was able to quickly snatch away the body before an autopsy, the coroner found anti-psychotic drugs in his system.

Ron's own wife was kicked out of the church for spying on govt agencies.

They are a scary, secretive organization with members in high places. Spying, harassment, and B&E are all standard operating proceedures against critics.

L.Ron was a prolific writer, especially after he passed away.

BEWARE THE OF SCIENTOLOGY LAWYERS.

I normally have a great deal of respect for the BBC's journalism, but that is a very unprofessional display.

On the other hand, depending upon which clip you watch, it does appear that the guy he was interviewing was not listening to him at all - but it still doesn't excuse it.

I am no expert on Scientology, but from what I understand they have cannot handle any criticism whatsoever. There is no doubt in their mind that they are right and nothing will allow them to think otherwise. It seems that if they cannot provide a rational argument or explaination for what they believe they will just ignore the question.

That's the problem with every extreme group. They KNOW they are right. All the fundamentalists are like that. It's the downside of religion.

Scientology, by the way, is a misnomer. Doesn't have much to do with science. Science is observation.

Tom, you're just now figuring that out?

:D Sorry, maybe that "smug" reference was a little oblique. For your amusement, here's Tom Cruise, King of Scientology and multiple Olympic medalist in the 50 meter couch-cushion destruction event, calling Matt Lauer smug:

Does anyone else wish that Tom Cruise had just called it quits after Top Gun?

legion 05-16-2007 07:52 PM

When did Tom join Scientology?

And John Travolta?
And Issaac Hayes?
And Will Smith?
And Kirsty Alley?

Why? Wasn't Hubbard a SCIENCE fiction writer?
