Are you happy with DishNetwork?
Hi
I am thinking of switching to Dishnetwork. Right now I have a big dish and an antenna for local channels. The big dish was great. Lots of programing and cheap. But now most stuff has gone digital so I would have to upgrade to digital. And I figure that the big dish programing is going to be gone in 5 years or so. So aside from the cost are you guys happy with Dishnetwork? Thanks Dean |
We just dumped our DN in favor of cable. Biggest reason was there was no way to recieve the Padres channel - a cox cable exclusive. Even with the full MLB package no dice on any Padres games. Local channels were from the LA market not San Diego. Finally our dish is on the roof and several times we needed it "tuned" after high winds. Signal drop out on really cloudy/rainy days. On the plus side their HD DVR is outstanding.

We have had DirecTV for over a year and like it alot!

my pops has had both and touts direct tv as the better gig. i was going to leave DTV go to DN to get the sweetheart new customer deal on hi-def & a DVR, but i was warned against.
i then "used" a dish system at a friends vacation home and it not to my liking. the remote, the channel menus, and navigating the system was a pain. plus, the porn was blocked. T$ |
Tried both and ended up with DirecTV. Stayed with them for a long time and now am with Cox cable. It may be a bit more expensive but the signal and selection is very good...

We just switched from cable to DISH - very happy.

Three months cold turkey, I assume my wife will make noise sooner or later. Will try to find an invitation to watch the Super Bowl, her main reason for tv service. Will probably go to Dish when pressured.

Back with DN.
True DT has Tivo but Dish's DVR is not bad. DN just got some new HDs and more on the way. We got a deal on DN's HD, 4 room and DVR.
Does DT have MonsterHD(uncut), Rave, Sirius, Rush, UNIHD(Battle-star Galactica), Science, National Geographic, BBC, Independent Film, Military channels? |
I've never had Dish, but have had DT (now with DVR) for many years. No affiliation whatsoever, but when I was researching HDTV, I came across this site:
http://www.satelliteguys.us As I recall, the consensus on that site was that Dish bites and DT is the way to go (between satellite providers). |
I was an origional DTV user... mid 90's if I remember right.
I switched to Dish last year for the local channels/DVR. At first I did not like Dish, I guess I was so used to DTV. I have become a convert ! I really like Dish ! their technology is a step above DTV. Easier set up for multiple tv's |
We switched from cable to Dish primarily because I like the DVR so much more, there are more channels, and it's a little bit cheaper. the box screws up every now and then, though, otherwise it's good.
|
I have Dish and really no complaints. I like the DVR. I just wish the channels were all ala cart. I get 100 channels and probably only watch/listen to 10 of them.
|
We had Direct Tv and now we have Dish network. Prefer Dish Network.
|
I dumped cable and got DN, never looked back. Much better IMO.

On demand is on cable only - you can watch free movies in their entirety whenever you want, no showing times -
Or you can watch current releases for $3.99 for 24 hours, once again when you want. I switched to dish recently since there are so many incentives out there right now and I rarely watch TV. rjp |
Dish Network is the way to go UNLESS the majority of your viewing is sports...for local sports in HD, DTV is the choice. DN has more HD channels and a better HD DVR, but local/regional sports stations are not a priority for them right now.

Hey thanks for the replys
The main reason I want Dishnetwork is cause they have porn. I likes me porn. DirectTV only has Playboy and they call that porn. And cable sucks. I would never go back to cable. I don't watch sports. I watch some network crap and HBO sometimes. Oh yea and porn. I am living in the 80's here now (except for EFI on my car and shaved rain gutters) I don't even know what DVR is. Well I sorta know. Some of my friends are techies and they all have the latest gadgets. But not me, at least not yet. Thanks again Dean |
Been out of that scene for a few years now but Dishnet may still be hackable. Direct is locked down.
Menuing, guides, etc... The GUI stuff varies by manufacturer. I had Sony boxes and RCA boxes. There was much more that you could do at the ROM level on RCA boxes but the UI sucked. The Sony UI was by far the nicest. I still miss it. Am on FIOS because of the on demand stuff which you can't get on Sat plus the discount I get from the triple play. Phone, broadband and TV. Paying half what i used to when all three services were with different providers. |
We have COX here in Tucson too. Wish we didn't. Expensive, poor reception despite numerous "visits" from the techs. And, the rate I pay has increased 50% in five years with actually dropping some options.
I would go with satellite except for the necessity of a separate box for every set. I have this strange feeling that ten years from now the landscape for television will be totally unrecognizible. I'll wait. |
Dumped Dish and now have
Direct. Direct was a better deal for the channels we watch. |
