any pilots fly into CYVR?
Looking for anyone on here who flies into CYVR commercial IFR. I am the Approach control Procedures Specialist and would like to "pick your brain"......
Let me know what aircraft you fly and what FMC it has. Contact me via email or through this post! Thanks |
I fly for Fedex, currently on the B727.
What's an FMC? Heh! "Jurrasic Jet" flies from VOR to VOR. We can go direct- but only if you give us a heading! Most of our 727's don't even have a GPS receiver. Well, they are just using them up since they are paid off, and the first 757 is already on the property anyway. Kalitta Air, where I worked before, has CMC-900 FMS units installed on their 747 Classics- complete with GNSS updating. |
Typo, FMS....
We get the good ol Fedex 727's in every day, at least they can do RVSM. Not that RVSM is important in my airspace! Did Kalitta use Jeppesen for data bases? Cheers |
The FMS's at Kalitta [call sign "Connie"] were updated by maintenance personel; I think the updates came from Jeppesen via Canadian Marconi. We used Jepp View software to print up approach plates on an ordinary printer mounted back in the cabin on the upper deck and flew with these. The CMC-900's were pretty basic, but worked very well.

Thanks, what routes do you fly now?
Cheers |
Jeff,
Just flew in and out of Vancouver a few months ago. Was in a brand new Challenger 604 with the Collins 5000 FMS system... What do you need help with? |
We just redesigned most of our STARS and am interested in some feedback about them.
There also was a huge screw up by Jeppesen with the databases they supplied. Cheers |
Jeff,
If I return will dig up this thread and get back with you. Joe |
Next time you fly in or out of KPHX say hit to "Warren" (he is the TRACON Chief) from the boys in Vancouver. I have been their twice in the last few years with my procedures team and they were first class hosts for us.
Cheers |
Jeff;
Just was in YVR a couple of weeks ago. Did CYVR-MMSD in a G4. Returned a week later, then cleared USCustoms at Boeing-King. Had no probs in or out either time. |
Fingpilot, Joe:
Thanks for the news! Let me know if you come up again. Now that the project is over, I am in the office two days, talking to planes two days each week. You and Joe probably don't have any layovers, but even if you have a couple hours to kill give me a call. I can PM you my office number if you like. How do the KSEA approach folks handle you going into KBFI? We work very closely with them and they are a good bunch of folks too. Cheers |
Challenger 604's, G4's..... nice mahcines guys! If you ever go out empty and want to coordinate a max performance climb we would love to oblige...... :)
Cheers |
