Looking to buy a 1965-1970 Mustang Fastback for Fathers Day--any leads??

My brothers and my mom are looking to buy a classic Mustang 1965-1970 for my dad for fathers day. Our budget is 25-30k. Must be automatic, v8, and in excellent shape. Any mustang experts I can give a call to to help with 'what to watch for's' and help with pricing? Ive been watching Ebay, Hemmings and several other sights to learn more. Help much appreciated.

They guy I work with just sold his, 65 or 66 fastback. Needed some rust repair and paint. 10k would have made it excellent. Black with 52k original miles. Pony interior, sold for $6500 if that is any guide for price.

You are wise to look outside of the tinworm belt...Omaha is well inside that.

Add 30K more to your budget and U can have mine. A Ground Up Mechanical resto of a 69 Mach 1 428 SCJ...that is built to the hilt.

I recently have been thinking about selling the car. I spent $8000 doing the motor back in the day..there are 60 hours alone in the polishing and porting of the Heads. Four Wheel Disc Brakes, Global West Competition Suspension etc. The car has had less than 5000 miles put on it since I had it done. I just don't drive it, and maybe it should go to someone who will use it. It is an ORGINAL CA BLACK PLATE CAR..have the Marti Report on it. etc etc etc etc etc........

I know what to look for, as I have had my 66 for over 15 years. I have e-mailed a couple of folks "in the know" in the mustang field. Best case scenerio you can buy one from a private owner so that you have a documented restoration.

Like Porsches, the early Musangs all rusted in the same places, some of which like the cowl, can be a bear to repair.

I'll look around for you as well. I'll send you a pm.

Bill

If only it were a '66 GT Shelby...right??? Tabby. perhaps you should try the fools who want to be on "Barret Jackson" teevee. 60K? Reasonable there, IMHO. It's just too bad you bought Mustang once they had reached their "fat look" years...'67 and up...

I forgot how much I love vintage (60s) Mustangs till I saw this thread and the pictures on it...

I just watched 'Gone in 60 Seconds' the other day and decided that I'd like to get an 'Eleanor' car (67 Shelby GT 500) that was in good condition, just needed a new paint job, like the one Nick Cage's character gets in the end of the movie, and restore it.

Ah, another impossible dream...
