I dont know what it is, but not only do I constantly get tailgated, but its always by a big ugly truck, denali, expedition or any other variation of gigantic suv. Im talking 2-3 feet behind me. I normally cruise at about 70 so im not going slow at all. If it were any other car I would think they were trying to race and id be more than happy to embarrass them. But I dont understand why these people are driving such big vechiles, that dont handle worth a crap or stop any better, so aggresively. Do these people know how unsafe those suvs are. I think they feel safe because of theyre size, which actually adds to the problem. When I drive my saturn wagon, I never experience these problems. Why does everyone mess with the p-car?

I think you may be going too slow. Most "luxury SUVs" around here are driven at 85mph and up.

I had guys in minivans trying to "race" - with their entire famiy in the car. Looking at a 911 in front of them just gets them excited in a funny way. Sometimes I think they try to provoke you into meshing the pedal. They may want to see what your car can do.

No worries, if you are worried about safety, pull out of their lane. You'll get used to it. It's a small price to pay for the fun of owning a 911 IMHO.

It happens all the time. I agree, I think the drivers of the other vehicles want to see what your car can do. Most of the time I just try to get out of their way. Something alluring about a Sexy P-car that is just irresistible.

I can help you with this problem: I offer a very affordable service for P-car disposal, guaranteed to eliminate this problem forever. In most cases, I am able to exchange a client's P-car for a 20 year old Honda Civic which is barely capable of reaching and maintaining the speed limit, and looks like it's working hard at that speed. Such a vehicle incites no such envy-racing from minivans, SUVs, or even old beaters.

A few years ago I was on a trip up the I-5 in California's central valley. I was on one of the straight, flat, and boring sections cruising at about 110mph in the Pooch. In the rear view mirror I see something large and white, closing from miles back. As it got closer it I saw that it was a Mercedes M-class kinda van looking SUV.

The guy driving it had to have had both feet on the gas pedal as he was going about 125. He slowed when he came up next to me and I could see his wife in the passenger seat hitting him as he was driving. I could just guess that she was yelling at him for taking that lumbering blob to such a speed. When he saw that I was laughing at him he finally slowed down and started driving his own vehicle.

I am convinced they drive like that because there are minor consequences(to them they think) if they are in an accident. I was making a u-turn one time, saw an expedition about to roll throught the light, honked, he looked at me, rolled through the light and practically into my lap. If I had not turned back into the intersection he would have hit me. His wife was punching on him too.

If there's no one in front of you, move over. If you're just following the prevailing traffic speed, try gently rolling in and out of the throttle to vary your speed slightly. It's not enough to cause a problem, but it will cause him to have to react constantly. A moron might be unimpressed, but anyone with a brain will eventually figure out that it's easier to leave a little more room.

That's what I do. Brake-check. I slam on 'em long enough to see the SUV loser in my rear-view do this:

change lanes very quickly + watch them do the same thing in an attempt to follow you. then they proceed to flip over multiple times, causing a big mess... you watch the whole thing in your rear-view mirror, smiling all the way home.

I think a lot of it is unintentional. A small car like a 911 is so easy to see around, the driver in a high seating position still has a commanding view of what's ahead.

Not that different from how many people tailgate motorcycles way too closely. They're looking farther ahead.

This is the most plausible answer. When driving my DD (work van), I do find myself following closer to cars I can see over vs. cars (trucks) I can't see over/around.

Two things....if you are in the far left lane and it's open ahead of you....MOVE OVER....let the azzwipe get the ticket while you cruise past laughing.....

If you are being tailgated AND there's someone ahead of you MOVE OVER and/or empty all six into his windshield.....reload and then pump two more into his still twitching body.....

People do the same thing to miatas, so I've been stuck with this behavior for about 7 years between having the 911 and the miata.

Either get out of their way, gradually slow down until they go around, or go fast enough that no one can tailgate you.

I was cruising a little over the limit on a two lane road when this SUV decides to ride my tail.

I sped up a little and then took another look in the mirror and noticed the words "STATE TROOPER" on the hood.:eek:

He turned of onto another street a mile later.

Most of the time. Left lane = target.

Time to face the facts. Most of our cars are old by todays standards IE slow. My buddies wife's Uplander (mini van) has a 3.9 liter V6 that would STOMP about any normally asprated 944. This thing burns the tires hard off the line and pulls more like a sports sedan than a grocery getter its a real hoot. I should know as Ive driven/owned my fare share of 944s.

The vehicle I watch out for is the Dodge Ram with the plastic testicles hanging off the rear bumper. Usually driven by a unibrow, extra y chromosome, mullet wearing a**wipe. Why are they always on my tail?

Its not like im crusing in some 356 or 912, (not that I dont like them. love 356's) my car is obviously ready to run, and I WILL run something worthy, just not suvs.

Just yesterday 2 guys in a PU pulled up alongside me at a light and asked why I was driving like I had a Neon!. I told them I was doing the speed limit(which I was) in a school zone. They turned left as I was going straight at the light change and called me a "Dick" while taking a swig of beer.

Can"t complain though as I live in red neck country and have had very few "incidents" after 6 yrs of driving the 911. I think most people just like seeing an old 911 and like a closer look.
