VW touareg VS. Cayenne
I am thinking about getting a Cayenne S, then I saw a VW Touareg with the V10 TDI, 540 ft. lbs of torque. Did not drive it, but D@mn thats gotta have some punch. I saw top gear did a show on it and loved it. Since there's no shortage of opinion here, what do you think?

They are the same chassis.
|
There are some huge discounts available for the TDI Touareg. Some dealers were offering a free VW Rabbit (buy one car get one free deal) or 15K off msrp.
|
get the toureg, they aren't infected by teh ghey.
|
V10 TDI = very cool
Cayenne = douchebag alarms going off |
+1 for the Touareg...

As much as I like the Cayenne (yes, I said it), I'd go for the V10 T-reg.
I know a couple who have one and they are totally in love with it. Also, they took it to a VW R32 meet at Tail of the Dragon and kept up with the R's, excepting the turbo and SC'd ones. Not too bad ;) I've heard that a nice upgrade for the Touareg is to install the swaybars from a Cayenne, and you can change the air suspension settings via Vag-Com to drop it a little lower at its lowest setting. I'm in the process of convincing my Dad to get one to replace his Aviator when the time comes. It would make a great tow vehicle. |
That is what I figured I'd hear, plus there is something cool about a TDI. Tow rating is 7700 for both vehicles, which I don't understand. I guess it is the control/stopping maximum, 'cause the TDI would def. be able to pull more than the v-8. Anyone here driven one?

The tow ratings are determined by the capabilities of the chassis, not the power of the engine, nor gearing. The weak link is certainly not the TDI.

We bought a 2007 Touareg, V6 model last month.
It's an excellent vehicle, not found anything I don't like about it. Our last 2 SUV's were Chevrolet and there's absolutely no comparing the two when it comes to quality. :) |

while having the same capability, there are still two choices between very similar vehicles... they both do the same thing. the fact that you're considering one or the other could lead one to believe image is important to you... that's when you go for pepper suv. if you don't care ab that and just want the results, then you go for vw... it's like asking whether you should get an original beetle or a 912... |
I'd go with a cayenne s with any sport suspension options available. Assuming no options on the Cayenne, Diesel Toureq for me.

I was wondering about overall quality, and issues that any have encountered in each. BTW, on paper, without driving the VW I prefer it. So unless it drives like a real pig, or something else sticks out it is my first choice. |
3 out of the first 10 in the Dakar I believe.
VW must be doing something right. |

Lots of good add-ons: 6 speed Power rear hatch GPS Reversing camera Keyless entry to mention a few. |

On a side note, A friend of mine had a New GTI, which I drove on a few occasions, and soon after I sat in a new 997 C4 at a track day. The quality was the same to my eyes and fingers. That either says great things about VW or not so great things about Porsche ;) In any case, go drive one and see what you think. |
We have a '06 Touareg V6 with just short of 20,000 miles. We have not had a single issue with it.
We started with a '04 when they came out. We had a lot of problems with the '04, but VW stepped up and made us an offer we couldn't refuse and replaced it with the '06. |
