I'M Being Nigerian Scammed!

So it's happened to me, now, too. Maybe not from so far away (as Nigeria), but same cr@p, nonetheless. I listed a car on craigslist. Today, I got an email using the same old "cashiers check for far more than the thing is worth" bit.

Hello There,
I am interested in the piece you placed on craigslist....i am
presently out of town....but i want to purchase this piece as soon as
possible..it is up at a great price which i would like to take
advantage of....but the only means of payment which is available to me
now is through a certified check....i am going to send you a certified
check of...$6200...and all you would do is cash the check deduct your
money for the item and you would have to send the rest of the money to
my mover who will pick it up as soon as the balance is sent by you.If
you are interested please send me a full name and address where i can
have the check issued out to immediately.i really hope you are serious
seller
Jennifer

So now I'm wondering, what should I do with this? Just politely dismiss her? Tell her to F off? Or actually string this along? How creative can the OT braintrust get?

BTW, if anyone's interested, I'm trying to sell my daily driver '95 Nissan 200SX SE-R. Very clean. 94K miles. Asking $3100. Listed here .

you should at least try to string her along... not quite sure what the best way to do this is...

I still get replies for a motorcycle that I sold last year and then closed the ad. I had one scammer up to 55K for a 2001 Harley Davidson Sportster. I did not get anything back from them after I said I was having a hard time letting it go, but for 75K I would sell it.

Send a copy of the email to her email provider (yahoo, hotmail ) and tell them that they have a scammer using their system. They will usually close them down, at least for a while.

Will do. But in the meantime, where's the satisfaction of stickin' it to the .... err.... woman behind it all?

Tell "Jennifer" you are really interested and have her send a cashier's check to your "home", i.e. the local FBI office. Not that they really care, but at least let them lose a little money in the transaction.

To catch a fox you have to think like a fox. Bate them and get them to send you a check anywhere but your home...and just play the game..act like a complete dope and tell them yes..who is the shipper get numbers and see if you can get a real live person..then begin to act real stupid and see if you can meet them to give them the money...make it interesting..and fun..Tell Jennifer you have always wanted go on a African safari and a date on the Serengetti. Tell her you take Rhino tusk and are the man....
