The only ones 'interesting' (to me) where the Gatlin guns ... I stopped when I saw the 'Star Wars' one .... not much more ... too much 'plastic' and most of them don't even work properly!!!!

Jeez this will take forever to go through!
Like the old John Wayne and Harrison Ford guns... Lots of history here, Liberty Valence, Arizona, William Holden, High Chaparral, The Magnificent Seven, Shane, the Bonanza series, True Grit, an honest to God Gatling gun in cal .45-70!, Flying Tigers and so on... Might have to bid on one or two of these...

Thanks, Tabs -
That was an enjoyable hour. I don't particularly want to own a firearm I can't shoot, but some of them were tempting. I particularly liked the Bonanza .45's and those from the High Chaparral. Those near new series 70 gold cups look almighty tempting. Is the price range quoted for them in the ballpark? Shame I will be out of town on the 5th.

Some of these guns could be made to function normally again. The .45 auto's are easy to change the barrel out and if no other mods have been made its a 2 minute switch. As far as pricing, if you kept a look at the Steve McQueen auction last year prices were WAY over the estimate. Depends on the article you are looking at and if a famous name is on it. I am going to be out of the country during the auction but thinking about doing a absentee bid unless anyone we know is going over there. Would love to have some of the old blackpowder pieces.

I have been to Sid Stembridge's place a few times. Nice stuff, a lot was sold off years ago (mostly to a collector in Oklahoma). He had '98 Krag's still in the cosmoline. I notice that there's a Krag for sale that was carried by John Banner (Sgt. Schultz) in "Hogan's Heroes".
Nice to see they tried to be historically accurate on those old sitcoms.

Sometimes the action is so quick in a movie one can't tell what kind of gun is being used. In Raiders of the Lost Ark I always wonder whether it was a Colt New Service or Smith & Wesson 44 Handejector (mdl 1917) that Harrison ford was using. Well the mystery has been cleared up it was the Smith.
Also in Star Wars, looking at the Hand Blasters, they looked suspiciously like Mauser Mdl 1896 Broomhandles and sure enough thats what they were modified Broomhandles. So the auction cleared a few things up. Also was watching a bunch of John Wayne cowboy pics made at RKO. Some of the guns in the auction were used in those movies.

Actually the main batle rifle in US military service in the Spanish American War was the venerable old 45/70 Trapdoor. Thats why the 1500 Spainards were able to hold off 13000 or so US Troops at San Juan Hill for so long. The Spainards were using the Mauser which fired a smokless powder round.vs a then oboslete Blackpowder cartridge. That is why the US eventually adopted a copy of the Mauser action in the 1903 Springfield which fired the still viable today 30/06.

A movie prop Thompson in the box box went through my shop last year. Was more authentic than I expected. It came with a drum but GI stick mags would also fit. I kept it a few months, then someone wanted it more than I did.

Jim,
Was it modded to where it would fire only blanks? If you get anymore like that let me know... Joe
