US Govt = RNC?

More evidence that Bush & Co. have been doing their best to make the United States government merely an arm of the Republican National Committee.

Monica Goodling, former aide to Attorney General Gonzales, who initially pled the Fifth to avoid testifying, has now testified that she improperly used political criteria in making hiring decisions at the Department of Justice, including investigating the candidates' political affiliations, reseaching their past political donations, and asking the candidates' references about the candidates' political views. She applied these political criteria to lawyers as well as immigration court judges and other career positions. If she suspected the candidate was a Democrat, she blocked his/her hiring. Federal law prohibits consideration of political affiliation in hiring for career positions (i.e. positions that are not political appointments).

Lurita Doan, head of the General Services Administration, tried to use her agency to help Republican candidates win the 2008 election. She asked GSA officials to attend a briefing by Karl Rove's office about the 2006 mid-term elections, the Congressional Democrats that the RNC planned to target, and the Congressional Republicans that the RNC wanted to defend. After the briefing, she asked the GSA officials how they could help the Republican candidates, a discussion that continued until Rove's representative said the discussion should be "taken offline". Federal law prohibits government employees from using their positions for political purposes. In response, Doan has said she spent the whole meeting working on her Blackberry and that the GSA officials who testified against her were inferior performers. The US Office Of Special Counsel has asked President Bush to discipline or remove Doan.

I predict that Bush will jettison Doan but keep defending Gonzales. Why? Because a tame Attorney General is very useful to a President. Note the recent disclosure that former Attorney General Ashcroft and his deputy refused to certify (approve) the NSA's program of warrantless wiretapping, which forced the White House to modify the program. Having a tame Attorney General avoids similar inconveniences. (Not that I ever thought Ashcroft was anything but a loyal Bushie, but apparently he had at least one vertebrae in his backbone.)

Please wipe up when you are done drooling....

If you think that the Repubs are trying to take over the govt, then you should be really, really, really afraid of Hitlery and her bunch...

And the problem is...

Joe...Joe....Joe.....

As a fellow deesert rat I BEG you to try being a bit more objective. You might give the impression that the heat somehow warps our thinking down here in AZ. Fear any party getting too much power. It would lead to a situation that has occured in history before...need I be more specific? And yes; I think the Republican party is far better at organization and getting their way than the Democrats are, at least at this juncture. I am more wary of them because they are more organized, have large supporters, moreso than their rivals, and are far more ruthless and calculating. There is a lot of hypocrocy in politics to begin with, but lately the ante has been raised to a level that is unbelievable.

Better think seriously about what you wish for. Big Brother is already out there, simply looking for more power over the average "Joe".

Money, Money, Money....It seems what I have said about Hillary has gone in one ear and out the other. You continue to fail to realize just how ruthless and calculating she is in her quest for power. That is not the crux of my objection to Hillary, it the amorality of her, the ends justify the means mentality.

As opposed to what? The *morality* of these cock-knockers?

Not going to argue about Hillary Clinton, (I'm not a fan), but try addressing an argument or discussion about something else just once w/o covering your ears and shouting "Hitlery".

Actually, that should count as a Hitler reference and automatically forfeit any internet argument. :)

Back to reality: It would be one thing if these GOP hack/knee pad-wearing/Pat Robertson law school losers were at least competent. This is truly the gang that could not shoot straight. They could fuk-up a wet dream, as the old saying goes.

Do you really, really think this is something the republicans invented?
Are you so uninformed and gullible to have even a trinkling of an idea that would suggest the dems don't so the exact same thing? Come on.

speeder 05-24-2007 08:45 AM

We can't all be as informed as you, Sammy. I only have time to read a few papers a day.

Moneyguy1 05-24-2007 08:48 AM

Dear tabby...

The hypocracy is on both sides. You fail to see that I am annoyed with both sides and yearn for a return to more moderate and rational times (if they ever truly existed). Yes, there are Dems with financial backing, but never to the extent overall that the Reps enjoy. I am not a Hillary fan. We can do a heck of a lot better, but when one reads some other threads like the "bashing" one, we begin to realize that it takes individuals with tremendous egos and extremely thick hides to even consider a run for national office. Therefore, we do not get the best or the brightest....we get the egotists, the monomaniacial ones that have a personal agenda and not a national one.

If I could pick two candidates that would make for an interesting race, it would be Fred Thompson and Bill Richardson.

I also rail against the simple labelling of people as a way of dismissing them. "Hitlery", for example, says nothing about the candidate but a lot about the one doing the labelling. Bash the philosophy of the individual, not the individual.
