I saw a Japanese emperor today...
I drove downtown from my work to have a quick lunch with a friend. Couldn't park at my usual place...many streets closed, no parking to be found. So I parked a bit further and walked past the university. There were lot's of people standing in the row, police everywhere. So I peaked trough and lo and behold...Japanese emperor with his wife walking around towards the building together with our own royal family.
Just like that. He's on a official visit for Carolous Linnaeus 300 year birthday. Lot's of japanese people were watching. I don't know much about Japanese emperor but my understanding is that it's quite hard to see him in persona even if you live in Japan. It feels quite unusual to be able to get a peek just like that. In Japan historically the emporer was considered divine (living gods) and decended from the gods that begat Japan. So yes, because of their godly status they weren't for the regular folk to lay eyes on.

Yes...the Japanese emperor was considered divine and no one except for a privileged few ever saw him and when Japan's surrender was broadcast, the public was hearing the emperors voice for the first time. His influence on the population of Japan was the primary reason that McArthur wanted the emperor untuched and not placed on trial, but to remain as a figurehead.

Coincidentally, on the celebration of the infamous Linné, our own King looks like the crazy professor.
![]() Seriously thought, I am an avid royalist. I don´t care for any of our politics but I am damn proud of our long kingdom heritage. I wish there was a secular way of hailing 'God save the King!'.
