I drove Daytona!!!

I know a lot of you guys don’t like Nascar but my wife bought me a session with the Richard Petty Driving Experience at Daytona. We went on Saturday and I am here to tell you – I have a newfound respect for those boys!!! You watch them run at Daytona and think it’s easy and smooth – not the case!! The track is super fast and super bumpy, especially in the corners.

Basically the package was 8 laps driving while following an instructor. They were a really professional bunch of people.

We had the opportunity to take 3 laps driver ride-a-long before we drove (for a fee) but it was worth it!! The ride along was equally as awesome because nothing can prepare you for those 31deg banks when you first hit them. In the ride along we went around 165 and it was almost surreal!! My wife even did the ride along and loved it.

My top speed was 147 but its limited by the instructor which your following. The acceleration was simply awesome. Its actually pretty cool – I had to watch the flag stand and they would tell you to speed up or back off accordingly. Again – it was surreal, like I was playing a video game but you could really die!!

Anyway – I thought I would share my experience and if you ever get a chance to do one of these – its money well spend and a memory that will last a lifetime!!

Here is a couple pics my wife took – She did a good job getting a shot of me driving and the shot of me outside the car is when I just got finished – notice the grin – That’s still there!!! Notice the Toyota – it was a brand new car!

Give that wife a hug.

Not a NASCAR fan, but that sounds awesome. Not everyday you get to drive 147 legally!

I agree. It is quite exciting going 140 MPH, especially on two wheels down I-93.
