Screw Rennlist, I'm with you guys now!
I just wanted to say HELLO! to all Pelican 928 members, though I've been an actual Pelican member for awhile now, I've always used Rennlist (dirty word, sorry!) as my main outlet. Well, I just got banned from Rennlist..........permanently, so I'll be here from now on, if that's okay?
Now, for the reason I was banned from Rennlist, by no other than RandyV, moderator maximus himself (it's his actual signature), was really not for my posting for sale of some 3-4 exceptionally low mileage 5 speed S4's, GT's and GTS's I sell each year, but more importantly, for the posting on great deals I come across on 928's that I have absolutely NO interest in, while searching for my low mileage cars I've described above. I always thought passing along great deals I find along the way to fellow members would have been a good thing, but not on Rennlist! For verification of my last, and final thread, please refer to the Rennlist 928 forum and my post "'for sale, '87 5 speed S4, 50,000 miles, 15K, no affiliation, clean Carfax". That was my banning thread. Take some time to read thru it to see the hate and anger of some of their members towards me. This thread was placed merely out of the kindness of my heart, and I have access to a monthly Carfax, so I was even going to include that. I was called names, ridiculed, etc. over this. I personally, regardless of being banned from there, don't want any part of a site that doesn't appreciate the passing along of great deals I find, waaaaay before most, because I'm always looking for these cars anyway. Now, the reasoning RandyV uses for my banning, and that I was given a special Rennlist rule list, is that I once asked for a "finders fee appreciated", once, nearly two years ago, that he, nor the other members will ever seem to forget. Now, I'll admit that was extremely tacky and self-serving, but I only did it once, and never again. But after that, is when I was given my own set of special Rennlist rules to follow that no other members had too, including the posting of even thrird party great deals of which I had absolutely no affiliation. The other moderator and I spoke, and I thought the third party issue was cleared up, but apparentely not. So yes, I LOVE 928's and always have for nearly 15 years now. I've always tried to makie that point on Rennlist that just because I buy and sell 928's (occasionally), that it didn't make me any less of an enthusiast, but they never seemed to understand that, or make the destinction between the two. My interest in 928's is dedicated to the finding of great deals, posting unique ALL LEATHER GT's and GTS's from Euro models etc. and nothing technical. I'm not a technical person, nor shall I ever be. But that doesn't make me any less of an enthusiast. I really like posting great deals I come across too..........of which I have absolutely no affiliation! I find them all the time, but never had an outlet to post them out of simple courtesy. I would just like to post them, provide a free Carfax, and let the viewer take it from there. If I'm selling one of my own, you'll know, because I'll post it in the classifieds and then tell you it's mine! My question is, am I welcome here on this forum? Because I'd really like to be! Keep in mind that I truly only sell 5-6 928's a year, at best! The rest of the time, I simply like to post great deals I come across for nothing. Some on Rennlist were convinced I was nothing more than a used car salesman with absolutely no enthusiasm whatsoever towards the 928. But in fact, I've been obsessed with the 928 for years.......any money made off getting to drive a unique and different model every 3 months is just icing. I promise, you will NEVER see me post a car that is MINE for sale on this forum without informing you that inded it is. Only great deals on those of which I have no interest. Todd Johnson aka *928gts* on Ebay (with asterisks on each end) P.S. I see "danglerb" is a member of this forum. He was a Rennlister convinced that I was nothing more than a used car salesman, either. I truly hope he and I can put our differences behind us now. However, I think "cobalt" will have a kind word or two of backing for me, though.......... ![]() Last edited by low miler; 05-20-2007 at 02:50 PM.. |

Some people on Rennlist gave me hell, but they don't know me, and I don't take it personally.
Todd I have zero doubt a lot of the fuss you encountered was pure jealousy. Many of us have been on the fuzzy end of the stick enough times that its very hard to get past the sour grapes when we see great deals that someone else is getting. After catching the big fish so many times, some of the amateurs just wanted to send you off to the pro tour. I didn't realize it until after I was banned, but the bottom line at Rennlist is the bottom line, its about money. I was banned for asking for my $32 two year membership fee back, and you were banned for not paying some sponsor fee. Same for Dozman I think. Kind of distasteful to be so mercenary in the guise of being a support group.

FWIW, I think you were getting screwed over there. You were always posting nice cars even if you were not involved with the sale. Anyway, I've been hanging out here more too even though it is not as active.

this is just too amusing.....
more complaints about rules..... although it's probably nothing to huff about---- but are you allowed to post "for sale" in the technical discussion threads? (don't take my question personally, it's just a question) I believe the same rules apply here, but you can correct me if I'm wrong..... I've become too "involved" with these discussions of late, only because of experience, not formal schooling. I have no degrees other than the school of hard knocks, and those experiences don't mean crap to a few that are posting here and there. jimmyt123 made the comment that technical discussions should be just that, not chat room material, and Sniper chimed in with a huge argument against. Where the heck has Sniper been the past few months? He was a regular here (since his banning from Rennlist) and then the past few months he disappeared......suspension maybe? Just kidding---- If the folks posting or replying aren't doing so according to the rules set up by the parties that own the site, the owners have every right to ban whomever breaks the rules---however slight the violation is. After all the stuff about dyno's and physics and me not knowing a damn thing about pressures and such (not really), I think I'll just ban myself-----again. ---- ![]()

I can't speak for others, but I am still excited about my 928's. I've wanted one for a long time, finally have one, and I am ready to talk about it, and flexible on the exact subject. Anti seize and lug nut torque, which car wash mix you like, or how good it felt to put 20 miles on the car going no place special.

I don't look at rennlist very much. John D handles it like it's his sandbox & he'll do with it as he pleases. There is very selective rule interpretation. That and the purist attitude of many posters stink the place up IMHO. I got banned for smacking around "super moderator adrian" for posting a link to my divorce papers from the county web site. Off topic had so much anti-American stuff it made my blood boil.
Here might be a little slower bit it's a whole lot better.

Guys:
Keep it technical, don't make it personal and everything is fine. I left that site 9 months ago and I won't ever contribute there again. No need for details, it is history. JK

As long as its Porsche related, 928 flavored, and the subject says what its about, I think this is the right place. Classifieds are for buying and selling you are doing yourself, and even then most of the time some kind of announcement in the forum seems acceptable with a link to the classified thread.
For one thing there just isn't much technical posting going on. Maybe that will improve if we grow a bit and convince a few more good people to stop by. If we double the friendly atmosphere we should get more than double the PH (Porsche Help).

low miler---
your sharing of your finds may be more suited to the for sale section, not the technical discussion section, but that is for others to decide. it's your computer and keyboard, not mine. I personally don't care one way or another, but just from looking from the outside (all jokes aside), there seems to be a preference to keeping the converse on topic, regardless of how fine tuned it may or may not be..... I have found, in my short stay here, that there are some who pose interesting questions and answers, and there are some who can't get past the language (terminology), referring folks to data that is at best incomplete or out of context or was just plain bad documentation of research. After offering my own documented experience, some have either mis-understood the data or just blown it off as an opinion. You will find this as well the longer you are here (or at any other forum). ---jimmyt123 put it quite well in another thread......posting opinions as opposed to hard core data. an example of where subjects may be discussed---- EX: complaints about everything under the sun may be better suited for "Off Topic Discussions", as opposed to "928 Technical Discussions", when ragging on about Rennlist or any other forum one may have had an issue with. Who knows what will be discussed on that thread, everything from politics to heart surgery to the latest police chase..... Now that I've un-banned myself into this chat, I'll go back to a mode of discussing technical issues at heart...... ----- ![]()

I'm of the opinion that it's a great introduction, and sets the record straight as to who you are, and what you are about.
The 928 section isn't nearly as popular, or well viewed, as the 911 section (which has its own separate engine rebuilding section). That being said, I'm here because one day, I'm going to find the right 928 to add to my stable (it's a one car and one truck stable right now - darn those cute kids of mine eating up all my extra cash). I owe much of my knowledge on 911 to reading books, asking questions, working with fellow PCA enthusiast, and Wayne’s knowledge and love of Porsche’s via Pelican. I hang out in 928 forum to keep learning. In my opinion, the more enthusiast, the merrier. Welcome to Pelican. Michael

One nice thing about the net is, if you look long enough, you will find a place where you feel comfortable.
Welcome LM!

I'll be here as long as this site does not turn into a Soap Opera.

Oh, that's going to happen. But usually, we keep it to the off-topic section. I escaped Cincy over 15 years ago and haven't looked back. But, I like to keep up with the Reds and Bengals.
