A Memorial Day Lie
"In this place where valor sleeps, we are reminded why America has always gone to war reluctantly, because we know the costs of war."
- George W. Bush, Memorial Day 2006 at Arlington National Cemetery |
exactly. that quote is hogwash.
|
Bush neither "went to war reluctantly" (he ramrodded the idea through the U.S. Congress, the U.N., and public opinion based on fabricated lies), nor did he "know the cost of war" (his estimates that it would be a 'slam dunk' were grossly inaccurate, estimates of costs, required troop deployments and casualties were accurately predicted by DOD models (which cost taxpayers billions of $$$ to create), which Dumbsfeld overrode because he didn't like them).
Four years after "Mission Accomplished", we're still sending our guys home in pine boxes. Why is that? |

How's about growing up and showing a little respect for the vets and those in service in our national holiday? You guys whine when George Bush passes gas. |

Its Memorial day for Gods sake but they piss on the grave of the soldiers (and the elected President) on a day like this. They have NO HONOR what so ever... But then I am a vet and the majority of them are not so they could care less... |

Memorial Day is to honor the troops, not the President. |
I hear the cost of Pine is going up and they are gona send your boy home in a Pressed Wood Box.
Unfortunately in the history of human affairs BRAVE MEN are MOSTLY led by Bufoons. George Bush and his Administration has turned out to be no exception when it comes to the issue of Iraq. |
That said let us pray for the souls of those who have given their lives for this country.
|
The point here is that I can see and appreciate both sides of the argument, but on a national holiday to honor the fallen that have given the ultimate sacrifice to protect your freedom to speak out on a forum such as this; you keep your yap shut and pay your respects.

I don't see Bush et al keeping their yaps shut on Memorial Day. I see them giving photo-op speeches in front of waving flags and massed graves, trying to get us to identify the Administration with the troops. Memorial Day is a time to reflect on our wars and war dead, and those who serve in our military. This is a natural time to reflect on the current war, the continuing deaths, and the troops being sent to Iraq right now. I see no reason to stifle debate. And certainly not as regards the President. Memorial Day is not his day. He is as much fair game today as any other day. (You must be confusing Memorial Day with President's Day, a holiday you'll notice no-one gives a hoot about.) |
JYL...There is a time to speak and a time to shut the fk up! It seems that you get enraged every time Bush speaks. Pehaps you are projecting your anger onto him, instead of laying it where it belongs. Since I am not your Shrink, go figure it out yourself. Meanwhile hold your tongue on this day.

One more hat for the ignore list.

We don't honor our troops by denying the circumstances that got us into this. Today is not about politics, it's about the sacrifices made by service men and women. Sacrifices made for us, regardless of which side of the Iraq debate you are on.
Last year one of the groups I'm involved with raised $20K for wounded/disabled Veterans at the Yountville Veterans Home. Beginning in 2007, the group has also chosen to help support the Veteran's Administration Hospital "Hometel" facility operated by the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. The VA Hospital "Hometel" facility is a very much needed residence with motel-type rooms for wounded or seriously ill outpatients recovering from surgery or extensive medical treatment at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. It's a great cause - tax deductible, even. How about celebrating Memorial Day by doing something substantial for the troops who have already paid dearly? If you want to contribute, drop me an email and I'll forward the address. Thanks, Jim |
Boy, some people just do not get it do they!
Paying respect by shutting up ONE FRIGGING DAY OF THE YEAR is not going to hurt anyone and makes the family of the fallen a hell of a lot happier. Its called Memorial day to honor the soldiers. Please try doing this for one frigging day then you can make a fool out of yourself the remaining days of the year! |
I don't enjoy people telling me to 'shut my yap'.
I'll say what I want, when I want. This is the PERFECT day to discuss Bush and the war. In fact its the best day of the year. |
Some people do not need to be told to respect the dead and those risking their lives on Memorial day, then there are others who are too thick to know better.
And myself and my fellow vets risked our lives for *********s like this... Not to worry, Osama or his friends will shut your yap for you some day... |

I then called my old XO, Nam helo pilot, decorated like you read about, to thank him...he got it. He would get JYL as well. We are what we are...it is good company, no lie. |
God bless our troops that have fallen and those still in the field. May their leadership have the perfect 20/20 foresight that their detractors have in hindsight. May their families and friends enjoy this day of memorial free from those that would make their sacrifices seem less honorable or of less value. God help us win this war against terrorism despite those within our own nation that aid the enemy in this time of war and sacrifice. Let us honor our troops in their sacrifce and their leadership that also have sacrificed greatly at the altar of public opinion to do the right thing. God bless our troops, our President, and our grateful nation.
