BANGKOK, Thailand - Banning the trade in endangered wildlife can actually result in increased trade in the animals and their parts, a report published Thursday said.

Banning guns, drugs, alcohol, smoking, foie gras...they all make the banned thing MORE DESIRABLE.

Of course, I don't actually expect the proponents of any of these bans to get this.

yeah, legalize everything , start with Meth, give it a few years and evaluate... banning is just plain silly isn't it

I think it would grossly lessen it's appeal if it was widely available. Besides, social stigma is a far more effective motivator to avoid/partake in a behavior than government regulation. People will go to great lengths to avoid being embarrassed; most have no problem openly flaunting laws.
