Yep a RR Watch, obviously...It depends whether the Case is Solid Gold or Gold Filled...believe it or not most Pocket Watches don't bring that much money. I own a couple, and have a couple that are broken. They are just FUN.

nice watch, but to be a railroader it should really have every minute marked on it, not just the nicks between the hours.
you can't beat a free watch though. http://www.revolution-press.com/news/wp-content/uploads/hamilton/auction/pw.jpg Last edited by onlycafe; 06-01-2007 at 04:12 PM.. |

I get offered pocket watches occasionally. To me they're something of a speciality item that I'm not really interested in learning about so I'll send them to someone else if they think they have a watch worth big bucks.
A watch that says gold case may not mean what you think it does. I had the idea that RR watches were key set and usually key wound but then my sources of informatiion aren't always the most reliable. Jim

My dad was a pocket watch guy. He was born in 1908. Football lineman, center, in the era of leather helmets...you get the drill. Back in his young days, any male wearing a wrist watch was considered to be "light in the loafers". My dad drove Buick Roadmasters, carried Waltham pocket watches. I still have his old watch...14K gold, Waltham. I'll keep it, not use it, forever. End of story.
Next up here? Some folks bragging about their Rolex wrist watches. All of it is about image, right????

I have a Rolex....pffft...I'm not really impressed by them...I wear mine everyday, change oil with it, dig in the garden (rocks) with it...wash the car...no matter... its my status symbol of wealth and taste...

Have my Fathers watch and his Fathers watch as well. Use them from time to time but not often but do love the old pocket watches.

Its very common to see early wristwatches from the era that are converted pocket watches, or recased pocket watch movements into early wrist cases.

My dad eventually went to wristwatches, but it took some time for him to make the switch. I'd say 1970? I guess by then he figured out they were here to stay, not just a passing fad.

Reminds me of my dad waiting to see if color TV caught on!
![]() When I got my first job I asked him to co-sign on a Subaru brat... he was like WTF is a Subaru? (late 70's) I like pocket watches but they aren't very practical for me so I haven't added any to my collection... although when I see a nice one I am tempted.

"Subaru brat", I'd forgotten about them. The Chevron station I worked at was their refueling stop during one of their press introductions. '77 or 8, Bill Stroppe(sp) was nominally in charge, his wife drove a capable Bronco.
