OMG!! We are all gonna die Tropical Storm Barry!!

Please! This is the "second named storm of the season" and it looks like the first..... Rain.

But the media is turning this into a feeding frenzy of doom and gloom. It should not even be a named storm to begin with. Its rain!! Thats all, and hopefully it will make my grass green again.

Guess what I am doing Saturday while we are being destroyed by TS Barry? Going to Art Museums with my wife in West Palm Beach and Palm Beach.

We have a TV meteorologist in Minneapolis who reportedly pulls down around $2M per year...that about frames it up for me anyway...

"We have VIPER prologix doppler 1 million megawatt street level 3D radar and the rain will be moving through YOUR neighborhood at approximately 7:15 PM tonight!"

Jim, they are the same here. Anything to get everyone excited and watching the news I guess.

I don't much bother with it until it's a couple of days out from me or someone I know. Of course I've got the entire gulf covered with my grand mother, aunt, uncle, cousin, etc in Vero Beach, another Aunt and Uncle in Lakeland, my mother just outside of Pensacola, and then me over here on the Southeast side of Houston.

I think one of the storms managed to hit everyone but me.

It was irresponsible for the Hurricane Center to name this and even call it a tropical storm. It was rain coming up out of the Gulf, nothing more. There is no organization to it at all and guess what? Sunday it turns "extra tropical" because it was never a storm to begin with.

What have they done to us in Florida? Postponed closings on homes because now insurance companies cannot write new policies until this has past, due to it being a "Named Storm".

Another blow to our slowly recovering housing market as sheeple in Florida and around the country actually buy into this BS and are either making the decision to leave Florida or to not come at all.

Insurance companies will count this as a named storm and use it as ammo to get rate hikes again this year.

Hmmmmm..... Maybe I should begin applying for FEMA aid since I am being affected by a "Tropical Storm". I can claim rain damage to my house is excess of 1 Million dollars.

Over the years I never realized you lived in the Minneapolis area too.

Seems to me that the over-dramatic reporting on the possibility of being pelted with....er, uh....RAIN, is good reason to raise gas prices. Maybe they'll apply for increased government subsidies because of the pending impact on their business.

Man, I wish I was in the oil business!

There once was a time when only hurricanes got names. Now tropical storms get names. Anybody been in a tropical storm? Just a lot of wind up to 50 -60 mph gusts, a lot of rain, and choppy seas. In Miami, the kids go out on their surfboards (and some even get drowned--the jerks).

The TV media is in constant need of hype--to sell ratings and advertising. It's a scourge. And it raises insurance rates in Florida.
