"Cooperative steering" seems a bit dicey on those downhill twisties!

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me that a crank driven chain drive is still the most efficient means of converting human power to drive power.

When I was an engineering student at UT and a bicycle racer, I thought it would be a good idea to join the UT engineering human powered vehicle team. I went to one of their meetings with another bicyclist/engineering student and to our dismay they had decided to use a little two push pedal drive system like in a kid's car. We tried to explain the error of their ways, but they didn't want to discuss it. Needless to say we left.

That thing is stupid in so many ways. What if one or two of your pals decide to take the bus? How is the performance with a single operator?

They've abandoned the simplicity of a bicycle. You can't operate that thing in a bike lane or park it in a bike rack.

It looks slow as hell unless you're going downhill.

Ridiculous that half the passengers need to face the rear of the vehicle.

Steering looks vague at best. Good luck "driving" that thing in the rain.

It looks like a pathetic attempt to "modernize" a railroad handcar.

As Moses said, you can't operate it in a bike lane. When someone in the Corvette club crosses the center line, you, and three of your closest friends are toast.
Take that rig on the Tail of the Dragon.

And two of the "drivers" are facing the rear? I don't want them steering!

If I was facing backwards, my performance would be diminished by the fact that I'd be puking non-stop after 10 minutes or so.

Hey, there's a music video, yo!

A number of years ago there was a sculling team on the east coast that built a training rig that ran on the street. Same layout as a sculling shell, but with wheels that were driven by the oars. They were told they had to register it as a kit car to be able to use it on the street.

The coxwain (the little guy steering and shouting in the back of the boat) got a traffic ticket for speeding, something like 45 in a 30. Seems the cop ticketed him because he was the driver, and the rest of the guys were determined to be the "engine".
