need a pic of a gear.....
i'm going to be getting a new tatoo over the next week and need a detailed pic of a gear.
i've done lots of searching but haven't come up with something i like. the "gear" will wrap around my left forearm and sync with itself....about 9.5" edge to edge, inside this gear will be a design which will hold memory for my friend dale who passed away this past feb....i just need to find the right gear pic to surround it. need some visual ideas, a porsche gear would be awesome, but haven't found any pics of one from dead above which i need to photoshop and print to take to my artist so he can transfer it, the gear needs to be perfectly symetrical, although the inker is good i want a perfect circle which is risky to freehand. thanks :) |

Sounds cool but I don't know. First off it can't be symetrical or it will not mesh with itself. Think about a + sign as a 4 tooth gear or even a *. Your forearm is not a perfect barrel. Weird stuff happens when you try to "wrap" an object on a non uniform shape. |
i know what you mean.....i need the good pic so i can photoshop it, i need to "stretch" it a bit and need it round so i can manipulate it in photoshop, as a perfectly round gear will go from my elbow to my wrist, and i want it a little shorter than that.
when we wrap it we will skew it where it'll match up with itself.....i was thinking maybe a flywheel may work too....... |
here's a flywheel for an idea.....just the outer perimeter gear

interesting but not what i'm going for :)
i think some lineart would be the most helpfull...... the image i need needs to have a distinct patern for the basis of the gear, any shading will done by the artist. thanks :) |
here's a another sample pic....can someone photoshop the outer edge of the gear "perfectly"? i can't quite get it.....

Does this help? I turned up the contrast and sharpness to bring out the edge some more.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1180850355.jpg According to photoshop, this is a 9.5" x 9.5" document: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1180850629.jpg |
Sure you want to do this???

Why can't your artist draw one for you? I had a chameleon done on my shoulder and the guy had never seen one before. He spent a few days at the local library and after a couple of rejects (by me) he got it right. The shading and color is fantastic. I have always liked chameleons and this was to remember my first one. I only wish that I had some pictures of mine at the time to show the artist.
Goos luck. I looked for some pics, but your idea seems rather unique. Dave |
this is what will be in the middle of the gear.....the top of the "T" will be on my elbow side, there will be small text in the center of the T. being it is a large detailed piece you'll only see portions of it, at once.....the logo is from a band which he and i never ever missed a show, we even went to atlantic city once to see them.....with our large group of friends he and i were the only ones who listened to them, hence they're the basis of many many specific good times which is why it's getting inked.
the gear meshing with itself is to signify that we were as one.......which will encase this logo. we are doing the gear first, the artist will be re-rendering the logo so it's not just a bold logo, the center will be done after we are happy with the design. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1180854085.jpg and yes i really want to do this, it'll let me share our stories and never forget :) here is his thread........it doesn't have a happy ending...... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/321497-friend-struggling-christmas-sad.html?highlight=dale |
