A6 wrecked what should I replace it with?

Yesterday a teenage driver blew through a stop sign at a very high rate of speed and destroyed my 05 A6 (car was parked no one inside.) The teen was driving a f150 pickup and the Audi is finished. A witness stated that this was careless driving, teen tried to leave the scene but his truck died a few hundred feet away, good samaritan contained the teen until the police arrived. I won't get into a personal responsibility rant right now, I'm over it.

The kid was insured through his parents, they are well covered and their agent is taking care of the car though Audi finance. So I suppose I need to go though the hassle of getting another car, my 911's engine and gearbox are still being rebuilt so I can't use that.

Anyone suggest a good AWD vehicle? I don't like the Q7, and any allroads are used at this point. I don't drive very often, maybe once a week to get to the airport, I maybe put on 5k a year. If I can't find anything I may just say the hell with it and share my wifes A4 when I need to go anywhere.

Glad to hear no one was hurt. If you drive less than 5000 miles per year, just buy an inexpensive runner and be done with it. Share the A4 most of the time and use the runner when you can't. That way more $$$ can funnel into the 911.

That's kinda the way I'm leaning as well. That's hoping that i get the 911 back on the road, it's been at shop since jan I think.

My wifes is the 07' 2.0T Quattro with six speed, the only reason I don't want another is because during our last major snowstorm it lacked the ground clearance to get out of the neighborhood. Honestly I hate trucks and SUVs' however they seem to be almost necessary in Denver.

Yeah a 964 C4 will have better ground clearance than the A4.

Maybe a Subie of some sort? Outback?

Well I'm thinking the C4 for most days, then when the snow gets really deep I'll use my FJ40.

Brilliant!

Though it won't have ground clearance, the Mazdaspeed6 is awd, and lots of car for the money. Forester 2.5 turbo is 90% of an STi, with extra ground clearance, and without the Fast & Furious image. Legacy GT is another good choice. You can also get a 5 series, E class, or Lexus GS with awd.

I should state that I don't do Asian cars, at least not since my 89' Hyundai that I had college. Maybe I need to look at them again.

While I prefer European cars, I don't think an '89 Hyundai represents the best of Asian cars.

Did the Hyundai burst into flames, as they had the charming habit of doing?

I wasn't quite sure if you leave your car in the airport on trips. That has much to do with what I would choose. Leaving any kind of Porsche in the long term lot of an airport would be trouble. If so, I would be a disposable car for that use and spend the money elsewhere.

Always, I park for weeks at a time in covered parking outside the Denver airport.

@onewhippedpuppy: No it died with a valve train failure at something like 90k miles. It did get me though college though, and when it died I rode a Honda Hawk 250 for grad school.

I hear you Scott, I had to valet the 964 turbo on tuesday at the west valet. I made a point of writing down the mileage in front of the valet guy, and watched him park it in that area right next to the valet entrance.

I am good friends with a car dealer in Fort Collins and he has an 01 BMW 325 xi (the awd) 4 dr with 61,xxx for $17.8.

I also agree though, the 964 C4 could be a good idea...

Well, I could but it costs $45 to park covered for four days ata shot, and it's like $70 for a cab with tip. If your familiar with corporate travel, they have these policies in place that only allow for certain things.

I'm going to go drive an awd beamer today, thanks for the suggestions guys, I never considered them in the past. I always wanted one, but never drove one.
