Oh, I forgot...

Calling your spouse your "old lady" or "old man", that's just so "trailer park", it makes me physically ill when I hear it...

EDIT: If anyone can give me an easy way to remember when to use "affect' vs "effect" I'd really appreciate it. I'm so paranoid about getting it wrong that I simply avoid using either word.

affecting
"wind affects burning wood"

effect
"the effect of wind on burning wood, is that the wood burns faster with bigger and hotter flames"

Affect = Verb -- I'd remember it like A is an upside-down V (for verb)
Effect = Noun -- Try "Side effect" -- obviously a noun, to remember that "effect" is the noun.

Except for the rare, but correct usage of Affect as a noun and Effect as a verb.

The following link can help you with this and other linguistic conundrums.

The irony here cracks me up. In online poker, they come up often.

You stupid looser!
You stupid retart!
Smart move genious!

Then there's these simple words that baffle so many.

They're
There
Their

Loose
Lose

Choose
Chose

Brake
Break

I blame NASCAR for dumbing down the nations youth. They talk some serious hick. LOL

Using "irregardless" instead of "irrespective"; incorrectly using "infer" when "imply" is correct and vice versa

ikarcuaso 06-07-2007 07:43 PM

"Vice-uh versa", instead of the correct "vice versa" (like vice president)

If you know the town: Ware, MA

She had a few other classics:

"I don't give two $hits!"

or her best:

"I don't give two $hits to the wind!"
