Daddy needs a new pair of Shoes

Really, i do.

i have bee wearing RockPorts for 10 yrs now...and i am getting more and more displeased with their product. Their shoes just arent as comfortable as they used to be.

They used to sell the mens basic, black, nothing fancy shoe with really thick soles for comfort, and no rock climbing tread on the bottom.

you cant get that anymore cause they dont make it.

any suggestions,

I work with computer, but not buffing a chair, i am a service tech and walk alot, all on hard surface (city concrete, stairs, data center floor).

any suggestions?

Tennis shoes?

I shouldn't, but myself and one of the other engineers wear them most days unless we need to visit a customer or we are having customers visiting our facility.

I've been a rockport fan for years, ever since I worked in a hospital and noticed all the 12 hour shift nurses had 'em...

However, I recently got a pair of Crocs, those rubber shoes. Got a new pair of rockports 2 days before the Crocs, haven't had the Rockports on my feet ..... *very* soft rubber comfy, but not professional looking. I work in education, so that isn't an issue for me...

I wore Rockports for years and thought I loved 'em until buying a pair of Merrells. Now that's all I wear. The styling might not be what you're looking for, but man they are the most comfortable thing I have ever worn.

I just bought two pairs of Born shoes and i love them. I normally wear Birkenstocks but I haven't been able to find my size (45) in a dress shoe. Borns are very comfortable. I have a Morton's neuroma in my left foot and I can't wear most shoes...

Try out Cole Haans, especially if you can find a Cole Haan store. Otherwise, Nordstrom has them, amongst others. They're not cheap, but they're comfortable, last a long time, and can be re-built by the factory. I swear by them.

Rockport Encounter:
http://www.rockportthestore.com/rockport/product.asp?s%5Fid=0&dept%5Fid=3002&pf%5Fid=PAAAAALJDNEKOACK&

Thick soles, good support, very comfortable day-to-day shoe. I'm on year 4, they are the most comfortable I've ever had.

Next in line are my Clarks Copilots. They are a bit better looking than the Rockport Encounter, and more comfortable than most sneakers I've ever owned:

Mephisto. Expensive, but extraordinary quality and will last you another 10 years.

Don't get the New Balance walking shoes.

They're nice and cushiony at first, but they wear out fast. I've had mine for only 3 weeks, been on my feet only moderately if that, and already the supportive and cushiony parts are worn out.

I discovered Keen last year, have a pair of their shoes and sport sandals. Really feel good on, comfortable supportive , etc, work well in a casual office, on the concrete in the warehouse, pavement, etc....

Keen Footwear

Also check out the shoes from Timberland, been happy with a couple styles from them standing all day at tradeshows.

Buy some Red Wings, they kick butt. People will think you are a redneck for wearing shoes like that, but the hell with people.

Ecco, Mephisto and Clarks are pretty good, Finn Comfort for sandals, perhaps some black New Balance walking shoes.

Rockport does not make as good a product as they once did, shame really. What exactly are your symptoms?

Your best bet would be to go to a reputable running shoe store, purchase some Superfeet(that is a brand name, about $30), SOF or Sorbathane insoles, get a good pair of black leather walking shoes(avoid Nike, they are not biomechanically sound, by and large) and replace the insole that came with the shoe with theone you just bought.

I can pretty much guarantee that your Achilles tendon is tight, given your line of work, that will cause all sorts of problems.

I am going the other way...get nice Italian made leather shoes. Had great luck with Johnston & Murphy. But make sure you get the Italian ones they have India/China/Spain manufactures that are not as good.

They are super comfortable, classic, made to last and well made. Full leather lined breathes great and they will last for years.
