HATE Chase Visa -Help me pick another CC company
Hi Everyone,
I need your help to pick a new Credit card. I have had a Chase Visa -British Airways card for over 13 years and I have had enough. -- British Airways isn't what it use to be. -- Chase has screwed my more times than I could count. After spending tons and having paid on time, they keep screwing me by requesting fraud checks for any purchase over $500. No real reason, everything is perfect, but every internet purchase or even some appliance purchases from Sears were rejected because they wanted me to call in -Ridiculous (never missed a payment, never late, credit rating over 800 and for God sakes. What the heck!) Here is what I am looking for: 1. Credit card associated with American or Delta Airlines. 2. Prefer card that offers miles on any airline, but accumulates quickly or at least fairly. 3. Covers insurance on Rental cars. 4. Over $20K limit. 5. "You Promise" points (529 plan for the kids -nice option) 6. Does not question every purchase just because they have "their own" Fraud issues 7. No annual fee. Small fee if a great card (and Chase is not). Trust me.... 8. Should I go back to American Express 9. Company that can handle as high as $12-15K a month when on vacation with out feaking out. What do you guys like? and Why? THANKS EVERYONE..... Don't they know I drive a Porsche (hahaha).......

That's quite a list of requirements.
Good luck fulfilling them all. I'd suggest a card from a good credit union, but I don't know that you'll find one that does what you want with points. You'll probably end up with an AMEX.

I have Capital One and Chase. IMO, Chase has much better customer service. Really accomodating csrs. I always liked Capital One because of the long grace periods, but they recently started screwing around with my payments. I send them directly from my checking account, and they started sitting on the payment for a couple of days after it arrived. First time, they charged a late fee even though the payment was there in plenty of time. So now I have to make the payment three business days earlier so they can enjoy the float. I guess they can choose to recognize a payment anytime they want to, but it's pretty sleazy.

Citi has two good ones, one gives 3% back on gas station and groecry store purchases and the other gives 3% back on retaurant and hotel purchases. I think the max is something like $300 back per year on each. So once I reach that limit, I use my Chase MC which gets me miles on Continental. With my two trips to China and last one to Germany on Continental, plus 20k points for signing up for the Chase MC, I now have a free ticket to anywhere.

In my experience, credit card companies are like used cars. You don't want the ones that are being agressively sold to you.

Cap One is the only card that ever lowered my rate when I called up and asked, can you lower my rate.
they said sure, no problem, and it was dropped 5% to a very manageable rate.

We used to have two separate Captial One cards. With a credit score near 800, no late fees, and no income issues, Captial raised our rates on both cards from 6.9 to 10.9. They did this over a 3 year period. We no longer use those cards as we have rates of 7.9 still on two other cards and they offer gasoline rebates and other perks.
For whatever reason, after a 10 year relationship, Captial doesn't want us as card customers. Oh well, their loss. Funny thing is they will give us a large ($20K) unsecured pre-approved loan at 7.5% with no paperwork. Capital did have a nice frequent flyer program with any airline. |

If you don't carry a balance, it doesn't matter what the rate is. Can be 0% or 28%. No difference.

I use the interest rates as a guide to who wants my business and who doesn't. I can pick and choose.
I once bought a truck on with credit card at 1.9% until paid off. |
