500 miles in an old 911 for wine and seat belts

Well, the old inertia reels in my 911 were shot, and PE Parts had an original looking fix - so long as I brought the car in. PE Parts supplies belts made to today's standards, and they do terrific work. The only problem was, they are 250 miles away from me in Los Osos, CA. On the other hand, there's lots of great wineries in the area.

Couldn't help it

Ran like a sewing machine all day

Highway 101

Great looking turbo passes me - uphill - near where the movie Sideways was filmed

Grapes are king on the Central Coast these days

The first of three Ferraris to pass me that morning

It's a great place for an 80MPH drive!

This is the sister company to PE Parts. BTW - no affiliation - they just gave good service.

This is their main line of work. They build the engines to 2.5L (flat four wasserboxer). And they've made work arounds for all of the minor issues with these Westies. This one is a Synchro (4WD) with a stunning interior, new bumpers, wheel package, entertainment system, Recaros and solar panels.

This is what they often start with!

A very nice group of people to deal with. Special thanks to Trampus! Now for some wine tasting...

For those of you who think that the only good wine from California is from Napa, you really ought to try the wide wariety of Central Coast Reds and Whites.

The only bad part of the trip was having to go back south!

You got it.

I really wanted to head out to the Cold Springs Tavern, but the timing just didn't work out. Isn't that fairly close to SB?

I forgot to mention - I got 22.1 miles per gallon. I had no idea that was possible.

Great pictures and a good story to boot. Thanks for sharing! You are right. The central coast does produce some great wines.

David, Cold Springs Tav is about 10 min north of SB right off the 154. Weekends that place gets a crowd and then some. PEParts has some nice items. I have their 3pt retractable in my 71. Nice upgrade over stock and safer to boot.

There was an exotic car gathering at Bacara over the weekend. Plenty of F-cars, Lambos and the like running around.

We just had a bottle of Baileyana Pinot tonight with our salmon. My wife and I met there in college and go back once in a while.

Great areas for wine both north and south of there as well.

Still waiting to have the Wolff old vine Chard and we still have one bottle of Talley left, but it's time we got back down there again. Another score was a magnum of Domaine Alfred pinot.

Great shots, thanks.

Picked up a case at Domaine Alfred, 3 bottles of the Old Vine Chard at Wolfe (which I remember as Piedras Creek/McGregor). To be honest, I'd forgotten about Talley Vineyards - you're right, another great.

And then there's Paso...

David,
Great pictures! I used to have a beautiful 1985 original Westfalia but I sold it to a coworker who is a rock climber. He still drives it!!

Ditto that. I replaced my old non-retractable belts with their retractable version on my '71 targa -- very nice!

I was lucky that the 72 Targas had retractable belts. I understand this was the first model to have them, although the told me that their are provisions for these on models back through 1969.

BTW - several months ago I also purchased their rear belts - very nice and very easy to install.

My 1971 targa had the hole in the rear fender well to mount the belt, and also had a square cut out in the rear kick panel (covered over with vinyl) where the belt emerges into the car. So, yes, it was all set up for it.
