Further update on wife

I start a new thread to save you guys from having to dig through the existing one.

She woke up last night, very agitated, and the nurse on duty can read lips. In essence, she wanted me to come and take her home. They had to sedate her again to keep her vitals in the required norms. The vitals are much more stable than they were two days ago. Her O2 saturation was temporarily notched back up to 60%, but the inhalation therapise who was quite negative three days ago is giving her a fighting chance now. She is very angry, and afraid and that means the sedation will have to continue for a while. The old "fight or flight" syndrome, I suppose.

I would say she took a baby step in the right direction, but I am still being very cautious.

I never knew that pulse and BP change so suddenly....See what I know. The nurses (I know tem all by name) told me to leave the number watching to them and ignore the monitors. I just know enough to be dangerous (basic medical training in the USCG centuries ago)

Thanks for the support for both of us. It is difficult to say just how much it means. I look forward to reading the positive comments and good thoughts. It helps a lot!!

"Anger is more useful that despair"
- Arnold in T3
The govenator said it in a movie so it must be true.

Well, at least she is feeling strong enough to be pissed off... that seems like good sign.

I will continue to keep you guys in my prayers, hang in there.

Sounds like she's a fighter -- that's a good thing!

Hang in there Bob -- and you tell Kathryn Mae to save her energy and her anger for the doc who put her in this situation in the first place!

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, and by the looks of it, she got scorned pretty badly...

Keep us informed...

Feisty is good. So is sedation.

The advice to not watch the numbers is good. They fluctuate quite a bit, and you can drive yourself crazy staring at them and listening to the various beeps and blips. Just try to stay in the "glass half full" side of things, and it'll be fine.

Keep the faith...

A pessimist says the glass is half empty.

An optimist says the glass is half full.

An engineer says the glass is too big.

Fighting is good, that shows that she has the will to keep pushing to get out of the bed and go home. Do not let her and make sure she knows that the best place for her is in the hospital until the doctors feel she is ready.

I'll lift a glass of Maker's to you and your wife tonight. Thanks for the update. You have been in my thoughts the last couple of days, and I used your circumstance and the responses on this board as a paragon of human caring -- twice -- in the last two days. Your "sun never sets" comment was especially touching.

We'll probably never meet (I hope we do), but I feel like I'm going through this with you, albeit vicariously and to an infinitely smaller degree.

Best thoughts and wishes. The prayers will continue.

JP

Having been there, I can tell you all are good signs. If all goes well you will have many more days like this. Every day like this gives her lungs a little more time to recover. Once they can work for themselves her body can start healing itself again. In the mean time, it's tourture.

I feel the same way, like I am there in the hospital room. All I can do is just sit here and pray and will her to get better. Which I will continue to do. Bob, please keep us updated whenever you can. Kathryn Mae, damn it I am willing you to get better, so do it!

Bob,

Supe said it earlier in a different post: I feel good about Kathryn Mae's chances, especially now given her pluck.

I just do, Bob...which is the essence of our prayers.

if she wants out of there, she is having a normal response to being in a hospital, which is good.

When you say notching up to 60% on oxygen, you mean what they are giving her, not what they are monitoring with the little red light on her finger I suppose.

+1 on wanting out of there! Experience speaking here...
