The Wife and I will be there, section U1. Just look for the smoke cloud that smells like burning rope (j/k). We were going to pick up some wine and food and eat in the parking lot. Hope to see you there.

Get ready for an awesome show. I saw it in West Palm Beach on May 19th. Great show, politically charged as expected though.....

Great "performance" concert, a lot of visual stimulation. Really good musicians, the guy with the Tele that plays Gilmour's parts is note for note. Being up in the "nosebleed' section, it was funny to look down on all the cell phone screens taking pics/video. Todays version of the lighters I guess.
I haven't smelled that much weed at a concert in a long time.

I've seen Gilmour/"Pink Floyd" and Waters separately (never got to see the full Floyd perform, that would have been awesome), and I agree. Gilmour was great, a better musician and better vocals. It was a a great show. Waters' show - ehh, was ok. I'm not sure why PF broke up, but I assume it was for the standard "creative differences," which in this case, would be hilarious, since all Gilmour and Waters do now is basically play the same old (but great) PF songs, and put on basically the same show in every aspect. |

Waters became too political somewhere along the way - at least for me. Loved all their albums, but the political stuff - eh.
I have always wanted to ask RW a question: Did he really blame the "Crown" or the government for the loss of his father in WWII? Was this a reaction he had as a child, or one he shared into adulthood? And I wonder what the senior Mr. Waters would think of his son blaming the Empire when he went off to defend England during what many consider to be their finest hour. IMHO of course. Just give me some Gilmour solos and I''ll be happy.

On another note, if you're a car guy and if you've never seen Gilmour's documentary of the modern La Carrera Panamericana, you are really missing out. Gilmour instrumentals over both modern and period film of the great race.

Funny thing is I have an interview on CD from them in the late 1960s (shortly after the departure of Syd Barrett). The interviewer asks them what they think of the Vietnam War. Waters jumps all over the interviewer. He basically calls him an idiot for asking the question and goes on to state that the opinions of rock musicians shouldn't really matter. I guess he changed his mind at some point.

Ok - I know I'm showing my ignorance here, but what car is that? Did it run in one of the Carreras?

Waters can't carry Gilmour's sandals. I like them both very much, but Gilmour can't be copied or imitated. He's one of those guitar players whose phrasing is so unique that, without looking, you'd know who it is after just a few notes.

Have seen now:
Learning to fly tour Division Bell Pulse Roger Waters Gilmour On an Island Gilmour doing Comfortably Numb on the Pulse tour was a defining moment in my life. At that very point in time I realized who the better musician was between Waters and Gilmour. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yeiz5wENoio

Pink Floyd split after "The final cut". As said above DG was not happy with the political focus of the album that exacerbated the concepts touched in "The Wall".
I used to love RW but his first solo album (I think it was "Radio Waves" ) was such a disappointment that I never listened to him again. Pink Floyd kept on going and even though I like the acoustic effect in their songs I believe they lost their "anger" with the depart of RW. I went to see them twice when in Italy (Milan and Venice) and although the show was spectacular I could not accept the fact that they were all middle aged men with a beer belly that could be my fathers... So I know listen to Ummagumma, The piper at the gates of dawn, A saucerful fo secrets, Meddle and Atom Heart Mother... Last edited by 911teo; 06-14-2007 at 01:07 PM.. |
