handshake and gloves.........

i work on constructions projects. everyone wears gloves. when you shake hands, is it rude to do so with the gloves on? most guys take them off, to shake hands. the problem with this is that hands are really sweaty. what is the dealeo?

oh, i am seeing the knucklebump happening more and more (instead of shaking hands). curious.

sorry, slow day at the office.

I don't shake hands with anyone, not even if I had a pair of gloves on, I don't care if people think I'm being rude. Goes back to all the time I spend in airports, do you know how many people don't was their hands when they travel? Just nasty.

If my hands are really dirty or so on do not shake hands but otherwise its a sign of respect for me.

Also you can usually tell a wuss from a man by their handshake. You get a "limp fish" handshake and thats a person that I usually do not count on a lot.

Someone who does not shake my hand does not need to ever come around me again, personal or business. Just my thoughts on it but there are a lot of people who feel the same way.

I'm miles from being an expert on etiquette but removing gloves for a hand shake seems like the common sense respectful thing to do.

Only time I would decline a handshake is if my hands are really dirty in which case I will show the palms of my hands and say "sorry".

And how about the opposite of the cold fish handshake... the guy who tries to rip your arm off? It's a social greeting moron not a test of strength!

Eh just give 'em a slap on the a$$, shows you have enough guts to be a MAN.
Check the reaction. Then run.

Sometimes I give a fag shake to people on purpose. It throws them off and the reaction is sometimes funny. I just did it to a guy I interviewed. He was sort of being a tough guy jackass so when we said our good bye's I threw him a fag shake. He looked perprexed and I got a good chuckle after he was gone.

Otherwise I always shake hands. If my hands are really dirty I present to option to pass on the shake. Some pass others do not care.

mwah , handshakes, no problem dirty or whatever, i don't worry bout that, germs are everywhere

i'll tell em if i got really dirty hands ( oil grease, messed with cars, stuff like that), and let them decide if they wanna shake or not...

my aunt worked in a hospital... crazy about disinfecting every little scratch or whatever

i , never disinfected anything, fell off my bike, gravel in my knee, big deal, it'll stop bleeding some time, scars rule

my aunt, one day , tied up a garbage bag(at home)... with one of those metal things with platic on ... managed to puncture her index finger...

disinfected , immidiatly, proper bandage, the works
3 weeks later, she's discussing with the doc on wether or not to amputage the finger cause they cant' get a grip on the infection... antibiotics didn't seem to work, nothing worked

she held on to that finger, but only barely

her brother, worked in the same hospital, he never goes anal bout nothing with his kids... and they are never sick either, they do not infect from the slightest thing

all i'm saying is... germs are there, let your immune system deal with it... it needs regular practice so it's on task when you need it...

Old school. Me too.

The germophobes crack me up. I'll shake anyones hand, sweaty or not. I rarely get sick. I get a cold about every 10 years.

The "limp fish" handshake is an act of submission. It's like a dog tucking his tail between his legs. Winners look you in the eye and shake your hand like they mean it.

Not shaking hands just makes me immediately put people into the "politically correct" camp.

That's the way I was brought up. But...a while back at a dance club I stepped up to a urinal, just about to release the beast and the guy standing at the urinal next to me recognizes me, drops his equipment, extends his hand and says "Hey, how's it goin ?" WTF! I thought fast, held my hand up (not out) and said "Great, except for this damned carpel tunnel!"

not me, far from it, you would be dead wrong on that. Nothing personal, just don't want to shake the same hand that you just used to shake. You can't ever tell if people are going to be considerate of others, so I avoid it. No loss, no foul, never been turned down for a job, or a big raise, or any other thing for that matter.

Cliff, wait for the other guy and see what his move is and match it if you wish. If you want to avoid this dilemma, offer the gloved knuckle bump before the other guy makes a move and act cool.

I'm in construction, too, and I shake hands if someone wants to. They can see what I'm doing and if they want a dirty, sweaty hand, I've got one for them. I don't often wear gloves, so I don't have your problem.

IMHO the knuckle bump is just another fad and will go the way of the thumb hook, the elbow grab, the low five, etc.

i gotta make a confession. we have nothing but those blue outhouse poop boxes on the jobsite. we do require one of those footpump handwash stations, but the idiot prime never fills them. nobody washes their hands ever! the "floaters" in the blue water prove that some soap and water would be a good thing.

i still shake hands with everyone. i just wash up everytime i get to the office. thanks guys, you crack me up.

Exactly. What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.
