San Francisco - Interesting 'Freak Show'

Spent a day in SF - will be back next week. Interesting town but man what a freak show! Between the homeless and the crazies as well as the posers and wannabes - wow.

I will have some splain'n to do with Our Kids when we are all there.

I'm thinking that the trollies, Alcatraz, seal rock, the tall ship and of course fishermans wharf will be places we will hit. I also want to see this park that has all the parrots. '

Any other kids freindly things that Our 4 & 8 year olds would like?

Pay careful attention. That city is what liberals want to turn the rest of the country in to. It is the beacon on the hill.

Run into any heroin-addicted homeless teen prostitutes? They get their needles, condoms, and meals from the city.

The Zoo. And kids just love driving down the twisty part of Lombard Street. Chinatown is memorable.

Try the Filbert Street steps below Coit Tower for some peace and quiet. The parrots hang out there a lot. But be warned, they just passed a law a couple days ago against feeding the parrots in public. Feeding from your yard is OK, though. Something about too much food and unhealthy food.

As for the freaks, tell me about it. All four of my grandparents came to SF in about 1920, and thay always made it a point to tell me how sophisticated it once was. On the other hand, there always was a Barbary Coast of one sort or another. There's something that happens when you're located at the end of the road. Like Key West. Even though I come from a long line of Republicans, I still love The City.

Floater

I took my kids there when they were little. We were walking out on pier to go see an old sailing ship. I look down in the water and there is a dead guy floating, with seagulls picking at his eyes. Welcome to the real world kids.

And I remember exploring the fringes of Fort Worth Tejas where thing got a little sketchy.

+1 on the exploratorium for the kids and Chinatown is a must see.

SF has to be safe. Aren't all handguns there gone now?

I've been there many times and there are so many nice places to see outside the city. Go to Sausalito, Mill Valley, Palo Alto, Muir Woods, etc. If you have to stay in the city, hit a good dim sum place in Chinatown. I try to look out for scenes from the Dirty Harry movies too.

Just came back from Sausalito, etc. Just as beautiful as ever and uber wealthy. Not much for kids, though. You might try the Nautical Museum near the Presidio. Still, depends on the age of the kids. Just stay away from downtown with the kids. Nothing to see.

One of the great cities of the world. Take the kids and wander GG Park. If the weather is nice (ha!) head to Ocean Beach. Water will be frigid though.

You guys want the entire country to look like Leave it to Beaver? Oh yeah, I forgot...

You are the king of hyperbole and exaggeration. No, most Americans just don't want the whole country to have the freaks that tend to saturate NorCal, especially the mayor and his blatant disregard for state and federal laws.
