Darwin award winners of the century!

PLAINFIELD, New Hampshire (AP) -- To avoid serving prison sentences for tax evasion, Ed Brown and his wife, Elaine, have locked themselves off from the world on their own terms.

Ed and Elaine Brown explain themelves at a news conference.

From behind the 8-inch concrete walls of their 110-acre hilltop compound, the couple taunt police and SWAT teams and play to reporters and government-haters with references to past standoffs that turned deadly.

Residents want the Browns' circus to end before their small town along the Connecticut River becomes the next Ruby Ridge or Waco.

The Browns raised the specter of the first case, the 1992 shootout at an Idaho property called Ruby Ridge, by holding a news conference Monday with Randy Weaver, whose wife and child were killed there along with a deputy U.S. marshal.

Ed Brown warned authorities they wouldn't take him alive: "We either walk out of here free or we die."

I'd say these tards are gonna get exactly what they are asking for.
The government will not and should not stand for this kinda crap from wackos. They will take them by force and someone will get hurt or killed, and the rest of the wackos in the country will blame the government.
I say drop a bomb on the compound and get it over with.

No, prison time for tax evasion. The death sentence will be self-imposed by the wackos as they resist with force attempts at arrest.
No different than suicide by cop, except these nutcases will try to take some cops with them. I suggest we eliminate the chance of a cop getting killed for doing his job and take these people out now.

Scott, nice twist but of you really want to look the past instead of just going for a knee-jerk reaction, we can say that our forefathers fought against "taxation without representation". Big difference.

These nutcases have representation. they have all the things that taxes pay for. They are not revolutionaries, they are cheats who got caught. If they turn their back on the government and decide to fight against it, they will lose.
F-em. If they didn't want to pay taxes to the US government they could have caught a plane and gone somewhere else. I would say good riddence. But they wanted to stay here so they have to follow the rules just like the rest of us.
What is it that makes wachos want to stand up for these tards?

Maybe they are related to the "Christians" that burned Muslims several hundred years ago, or from the same ilk (finally got a chance to use that word) of the folks who killed all those native Americans for land. Nice buncha humans we are...

I'm not familiar with this. I know the details of the crusades, but that happened long, long before what you are referencing.

Please elaborate/edumacate me. Thanks.

Sammyg2 - true dat.

Plenty of countries to try. Heck, they could go North about 300 miles and settle into some nice Area.

Nobody is askeing them to stay. If I don't like a movie, I leave. If I don't like a resturaunt, I leave. If I don't like a town, I move. If I don't like a job, I quit.

If you can't be part of the solution, don't be part of the problem...

They decided taxes were not legel and stopped paying them. They used the savings to build the compound they are holed up in. Ed Brown refused to show up in court because he knew they were going to throw him in jail.

This standoff has been a year in the making. I remember reading about him about a year ago. He has been fighting the IRS over the legality of taxes and he is being made an example of -- Do not screw with the IRS.

My 2nd in command here at my office, his father commited suicide when the IRS came down on him in the early 70's. He had screwed up (or maybe more I really do not know) and owed the IRS a lot of money. The came down on him like a ton of bricks. He lost his business (a contract machine shop building for the government ) and could not deal with it and checked out.

A couple of months after his suicide, on Christmas Eve, the IRS siezed his home and kicked him, his mother and 4 siblings out on the street. On Christmas Eve..... Homeless because the IRS decided Christmas Eve was the right time to ruin these peoples lives....

From what I understand the bill that passed in 1913 enabling income tax was passed illegally. Maybe that is a farce but some believe its true.

I would never test the IRS and this guy is about to find out why you do not screw with them. I would prefer to owe the mafia money.

From what I remember there were at least nine major crusades from the 10th century to the 14th century and countless other minor incidents up until the present.

I guess my use of several hundred years ago (as in 700) should have been clearified to a more exact period of time.

BOSTON - National guard units seeking to confiscate a cache of recently banned assault weapons were ambushed on April 19th by elements of a para-military extremist faction. Military and law enforcement sources estimate that 72 were killed and more than 200 injured before government forces were compelled to withdraw.

Speaking after the clash Massachusetts Governor Thomas Gage declared that the extremist faction, which was made up of local citizens, has links to the radical right-wing tax protest movement. Gage blamed the extremists for recent incidents of vandalism directed against internal revenue offices. The governor, who described the group's organizers as "criminals," issued an executive order authorizing the summary arrest of any individual who has interfered with the government's efforts to secure law and order. The military raid on the extremist arsenal followed wide-spread refusal by the local citizenry to turn over recently outlawed assault weapons.

Gage issued a ban on military-style assault weapons and ammunition earlier in the week. This decision followed a meeting in early this month between government and military leaders at which the governor authorized the forcible confiscation of illegal arms.

One government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, pointed out that "none of these people would have been killed had the extremists obeyed the law and turned over their weapons voluntarily." Government troops initially succeeded in confiscating a large supply of outlawed weapons and ammunition. However, troops attempting to seize arms and ammunition in Lexington met with resistance from heavily-armed extremists who had been tipped off regarding the government's plans. During a tense standoff in Lexington's town park, National Guard Colonel Francis Smith, commander of the government operation, ordered the armed group to surrender and return to their homes. The impasse was broken by a single shot, which was reportedly fired by one of the right-wing extremists. Eight civilians were killed in the ensuing exchange. Ironically, the local citizenry blamed government forces rather than the extremists for the civilian deaths. Before order could be restored,
armed citizens from surrounding areas had descended upon the guard units. Colonel Smith, finding his forces overmatched by the armed mob, ordered a retreat. Governor Gage has called upon citizens to support the state/national joint task force in its effort to restore law and order. The governor also demanded the surrender of those responsible for planning and leading the attack against the government troops. Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, and John Hancock, who have been identified as "ringleaders" of the extremist faction, remain at large.

My guess is 10 to 100 times the amount they "owe" the government will be wasted trying to "extract" that money from them.

The only thing that frightens our goverrnment more than terrorist attacks is the prospect of a widespread tax revolt.

The conservatives are always crying about being over taxed to pay for programs they don't approve of (i.e. without representation)... our forefathers started a revolution over being over taxed by their current government, I don't see the difference.

Hence their making an example out of anyone who decides they will not pay. This guy will die for not paying because he will not turn himself in.
