Marilyn Manson's new song

Why is this guy singing about taking some girls virginity? And why are people listening?

legion 06-21-2007 05:44 AM

He wants his career back.

And I figured he had fallen off the face of the earth...

bigchillcar 06-21-2007 07:06 AM

+1 and if that doesn't work..write a 'song' about taking some GUY's virginity.

Man, he is way out there, isn't he? No kidding here I mean it.

His website is just disturbing. I am sure this is what he is after though.

Having been a 9 Inch Nails fan 1st I was interested in MM mostly because of his sound that is similar to NIN.

But, man he is way out there with his act. I have seen him on talk shows on TV and heard him on the radio, he is quite articulate and well read. I sometimes wonder if he is smarter than all fo us with his ability to make everyone look. You can say you don't but you clicked on this thread din't you? See it works!!

Jim, you hit the nail on the head. He grew up as a tall, nerdy, well-educated kid who wanted to be a rock star. Understanding what he was, he took a page out of Alice Cooper's play book and kicked it up a notch. (Alice Cooper is the son of a minister--also very well educated.)

His public persona is carefully crafted for maximum shock value. His interviews, his stage act, even the rumors he has intentionally leaked are all designed to keep the public interested in him. From what I gather though, he is probably one of the most normal people you will ever meet--when he is not putting on his act.

Unfortunately, public interest in him is waning so he is searching for more controversial material...

Rearden 06-21-2007 07:18 AM

His persona is about as spontaneous as the Back Street Boys, just aimed at a different kind of kid.

BTW, Trent Reznor wrote most of the songs on his second and third albums...

I did not know that, I was pretty sure he did the studio work, the sound is very distinctive of NIN. If it were not for the over the top lyrics I might like him. I will admit I have some of his early stuff even though it was bizzare I was interested in him because he was so out there.

LOL @ some of the song titles.

-Just a car crash away
-Putting Holes in Happiness
-Mutilation is the most sincere form of Flattery

Remember James Dean..the Orginal Bad Boy...followed by Elvis with his sneer and ungulating hips...Jerry Lee Lewis marrying his 13 year old cousin...jump foward to the Rolling Stones...the dark side of the Beatles.

In 1969 Jagger recorded "Cock Sucker Blues"...whose lines went..."When will I get my co[k sucked, when will I get my a$$ fked." He basically recorded it because the Stones owed London Records a single and this song fullfilled the contract with something unreleasable.

Then you can jump to Alice Cooper, David Bowie (Ziggy), Iggy Pop, NY Dolls etc...each being shockingily outrageous. Sex Pistols..

So now comes MM taking it one step further..cause all that went before is now tame. So I have to laugh at MM...

Exactly... having grown up with Alice Cooper and Black Sabbath MM just seems like a retread to me.

He is no more controversial than Rosey O'Donald or Paris Hilton IMHO.

I was hoping MM was dead....

he is not trying to get you to like him
he wants you to hate him
that will make the kids love him
rock is not dead and is made to piss off people out of their teens
MM is a master of that style but getting older fast
soon a newer more wierd guy will come along

legion 06-22-2007 07:19 AM

Expect him to follow Alice Cooper, Kiss, and David Bowie to doing more toned-down shows without makeup...

And then put the makeup back on 20 years later...
