Can diesel cars be registered in California?
I've got two VW TDIs on Ebay. People keep asking if the emissions stickers say "50 state" or if they meet CA standards.
My '97 says the car meets CA standards, but the 2004 says meets EPA standards. Can a diesel be registered in CA or not? From the 2004: ![]()

As a used car you should be able to do so. I had a Bug that was purchased new in Utah, driven around until it had the mileage to be a used car, then registered in CA. At the time, California required catalytic converter, 49 states cars did not(1979). As long as it has all the emmission control equipment it came with, it should be all good, but check with the DMV first
