Next .22
 

I went to Dick's yesterday and checked out some .22 LR rifles.

Three that interested me:

Ruger 10/22.
Remington Model 5.
Savage 64.

I had a Remington 597, but I traded it because it was such a pain to clean.

Yeah, but the one I want is pricey. The K10/22T is about $450. A comparable Savage is $350.

I might just get a base 10/22 (probably used) and build it over time...

The 10/22 has a ton of aftermarket support. I recommend buying a dozen or so cause if the lib dems get bill 1022 ( how ironic ) shoved down our throats you will be lucky to own a sling shot.

Can't ever go wrong with a 10/22, Chris. I particularly like their new full size rifle version. I have an original carbine, and it's just a tad small for a full size guy. It was great for the kids once they outgrew their Chipmunks, though.

Used 10/22's are a dime a dozen at the gunshows. As I'm sure you know, accessories are everywhere. If you are going to "build" it, just grab one of those. The only thing left when you are done is the action anyway.

The 10/22 has an awful lot of options so you can tailor make it to be just about any type of rifle you wish.

Another vote for the 10/22,

in stainless, folding stock, 50 round banana clip, and a rotary trigger for a gattling gun effect...FUN

My dad just bought a 10/22 with a heavy barrel and laminated stock. It's pretty sweet, fun to shoot.

I have a Remington 541-T; I don't think they made it very long, but I bought it new and shoots amazingly well. Like, better than any production $500 .22 should shoot. It's a bolt gun, if you like those...you should check one out if you can find it.

Personally, I think my next .22 is going to one of those Anschutz target rigs....sexy.

I just got a Savage 93fv in 22 magnum, love it. Hitting clay targets at 200 yards....

Does the 93 have the same action as the 64? How is it to disassemble and clean?

Its a straight up bolt action with teh adjustable "accutrigger". Haven't adjusted mine yet, its plenty light as is. Dissasembly is pull the trigger and the bolt comes out the back. Not recommended to disassemble the bolt according to the manual. Wholesale on mine was $175 (I help a local shop with computer stuff in exchange for free transfers and buying at cost).

The 10/22 has been built forever and there is a reason for it. That would be my choich for a 22 Plinker.

If yo want accurarcy and a dam good investment by a Springfield Model 1922 M2. They are on the cusp of going through the roof...next stop $2500.00. The unmodified 1922s are allready past that.

Well, the 64 is semi-auto...so I can be pretty certain they don't have the same action. :)

A little out of my price range. I don't think all of my guns together are worth $2500.

10/22!

I had a nice 10/22 a while back... sold it because I didn't shoot it much.

I found a used heavy barrel factory stock (coffee laminate), put an Adams & Bennett barrel on it (1" heavy stainless), a Volquartsen hammer (sweetened up the trigger), and a Simmons scope on it. It would produce dime size 10 shot groups at 50 yards with ammo it liked.

The 10/22 is very customizable... with most other .22 rifles, you're stuck with the way they come.

Looks like the Savage I looked at was a special-edition 93R. Comes with a Bushnell scope and a thumbhole stock. I've always had a thing for bolt-action rifles. It's available in .22LR and .17HMR.

Get it in HMR .... 4" skeet clays at 200 yards...

Hey if you get the 10/22 let me know I got a stock I will make you a good deal on if you are going to do some customizing to it, that is. Also have a decent trigger pack and some other stuff lying around here someplace as well,

If you want something different I took a Henry in on a trade, they are nice little rifles if you like a lever action, did'nt really want the thing but it was new in the box and the guy owed me more money than he had in cash,

Do they sell Czech BRNO bolt-action rifles here? I had one when I lived in Scotland- great little rifle.
