Well, I have tentatively bought a truck...GOT BURNED!!

I have been looking for a tow vehicle for the 20' Sea Ray bow rider (3500 lbs nothing major) we are in the process of buying. The wife wanted a classic Bronco but we had no luck as they are few and far between. We looked at some new trucks and me, not being a big "truck guy", couldn't get on board with it.

Soooo I ran across a few classic trucks that caught my but they were either too pricey or didn't have enough hp, brakes, and A/C. I've always liked the looks of the 67'-72 & 73-87' short bed chevy trucks.

And I found:

I'm picking it up this weekend. 383 stroker, dart heads, etc. The wheels have to go in favor of some 18" Torque Thrusts and it needs to be lowered in the front. Other thatn that its super clean for a 79' and should be able to suit our needs. If not, for the price I'm getting it for I sould be able to make a few grand on ebay.

And I am now officially white trash.

I actually bought the tribute to #3 that has RIP and the date. But I'm thinking of putting it on my signature series Monte Carlo.

That'll work too! You're officially in and we'll be sending you a six-pack of PBR and a "wife beater T" with our logo

I like the old trucks, problem is, like you have seen, they are really out of this world in prices in some cases.

A good friend of mine bought a sick older 4x4 with a worked engine about a year ago and got a pretty good price if I recall correctly.

This woudl yank your boat out of the water like it was no ones business. I am not a fan of the huge 4x4 trucks I prefer a nice street machine like you found Terry.

We drove 350 miles to Jacksonville, FL to pick up the truck on Saturday.

Within seconds seeing the truck I realized how misrepresented the truck was. When I asked the owner to condition of the paint on the phone & emails he said is was great except for a few nicks and dings, the truck has visible rust through on the cab, bed, and engine compartment. Under the front windshield he had taken a piece of galvanized steel plate and glued it to the body to cover a fist size rust hole. The cab and bed were past the point of repair.

Luckily we arrived before he did. I called and told him to forget it the truck was completely loss.

It amazes me what people call 'great condition' these days.

Terry,

No affiliation with this guy, but I bought a truck from him in 2000 to use when I was communting to Memphis every week (flying in from DC, truck was used locally in Memphis for a year and a half). Sold it for what I paid for it when I left.

Great trucks.

Rust Free

Thanks but I picked up a 2000 Dodge 1500 on Sunday.

It just chaps my a$$ that people will lie to you in hopes that you will settle for junk. I wish I had a camera to take pics of the rust. It was everywhere.

I was pretty pissed and luckily my wife made me leave before he showed up.

New engine and tranny installed at 80k miles by the fire department I bought it from. 2 B&M trans coolers installed. Looks like new and has all the scheduled maintenance.

It seems like all the 1997-2001 trucks (chevy, ford, dodge) had either tranny issues or head issues.
