Question on Time Zones and the TV

I live on the East Coast, so I get all the live stuff first. I have been to other times zones, but can't seem to figure this out. Say the Today show starts at 7 am out here. Do you poeple on the other coast get it at 4 am? Or do you get a new version at your 7 am? Or what do you get?

How about other live shows?

Nobody out there watches TV? :D

About the only thing "live" out here is local news and sports. We have our own version of Good Morning LA and other news like shows. National shows with east coast feed are taped.

Do they show exactly what was shown live or do they editi it up for 3 hours' later consumption? (Aside from weather drop ins and stuff).

I think it's a direct replay with our live local news/weather/traffic inserted.

Same time out West (at least in Arizona) as in NYC. 7 am for the today show, three hours later at 7 am it begins out here.

I remember one of my first west coast business trips many years ago...It's Monday night, so I head down to the hotel bar around 9pm to catch the Monday Night football only to find the game was ending :(. For some reason, Monday EVENING football just wasn't the same...

New Years sucks here on the left coast too. When you know the ball really dropped on Times Square 3 hours earlier, it's anticlimactic. :p

Usually we get a taping of what you saw at 7AM, but sometimes with a "Western Update" that is inserted pretty smoothly, if there is something notable to report, like Paris Hilton getting re-arrested or some other "important" news piece.

BTW, the Tonight Show with Jay Leno is taped at something like 4PM here and edited and sent to the East Coast for airing on tape at 11:30PM and then re-aired here at 11:30PM.

Most game shows are taped a week or more before they air.

Yeah, this is silly, but I've wondered the same thing about shows like American Idol, where the audience has to vote. Do these shows come on in the afternoon on the west coast so that it is truly live everywhere at the same time?

It would seem odd to me that something like American Idol would be on at 5:00 in the afternoon. It seems like having alot of your TV audience stuck in rush hour traffic would be a drawback...

The only good thing is MNF comes on at 6PM
