Just another buggy whip?

Talk about obsolete, I came across this in an old tool box I hadn't opened in years. Wonder if the Smithsonian is interested or should I just file it with my other buggy whips??http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1183086969.jpg

I have a couple of old glass bottles that were used years ago with engine oil. Some interesting memorabilia that we hang onto...

Me and my tire store/gas station buddy were talking about those spouts last week. Don't know how many thousands of cans I stuck with one (enough to wear out several). It was in the era of metal tops and cardboard sides, once in a while you'd collapse a side and have a minor mess.

Used those old quart jars with the screw on spout many times back on the farm in the late 50's and early 60's. Would fill them using a hand pump from a barrel of motor oil. Wish I had grabbed a couple of them when my grandfather died....

Boy, you guys are old.......

(I remember them too)

I was telling Our Kids about the ol days - they have no clue what a chalk board is (replaced by a white board) or a TV antenna (replaced by cable) or a dial phone (replaced by a touch tone). I guess we should spend more time in antique shops!

I wonder what else will be obsolete in the next decade - hope it ain't me...

you mean stuff like this?

Funny thing is that my XJ Jag was in storage for about 22 years while I was overseas. A friend had it in his garage and drove it until the rear end had a problem.

When I started pulling it apart to restore it found an old can of Castol oil. Its the paper can with the metal top. Its being saved and someday will be worth sticking in a restored garage.

Maybe I can talk Jim or 74-911 out of one of those spouts to stick with it! :)

You to can be obsolete, just try 25 years experience in COBOL..
That's dinosaur territory.

The list of things today's HS graduates know nothing about is HUGE. I know a substitute teacher who likes to throw terms at them, to see if anybody has any idea what that term means. They are usually stumped. One of the terms she throws at them is "Datsun."

When I was a boy, we had black and white TV and if I wanted to change the channel I'd have to get up walk over to the TV and mechanically change the channel and stand there and see if I wanted to watch that station.

My daughter asked what a typewriter was? Another thing which I always thought was strange: My grandpa used to gargle with kerosene to get rid of his sore throat...Damn!..Never got any type of stomache or throat issues...

used one last night, will use it again after walking the dog after i get home. mounted on the side of the kitchen counter. which reminds me i have to find my spare one an mount it in the garage.

I should clarify... I meant one of those bottle openers that has a can opener on the other end... I actually have one kicking around in a kitchen drawer. On a strange note you ever notice that most corkscrews can double as a bottle opener?

I think I also have some cardboard cans of castoil in the garage. I know an antique store in Pasadena that has about a half dozen typewriters, I'm thinking of buying one as an object de art.
