Sorry to hear. But she was loved, had a good, long life, and went quickly at the end, that's about the best any of us can ask for. Take care.

stomachmonkey 06-29-2007 10:52 AM

Sorry to hear it.

Thank You ALL.

I was sitting on the floor looking her straight in the eyes telling her she was a Good Dog, and that I loved her while I scratched her ears, when they put the injection in. I continued to pet her until she was no more.

The Vet at the Emergency Vets said she was a very sweet dog that didn't try and fight them when they were doing the tests on her. Yesterday Evening they called to find out how she was doing, they said every once in ahile a client will touch their heart. (I waited until mornining to put her down, I wanted a bit of time to think and talk to a friend about it. They had given her a shot of pain killer at the Emergency Vet so she wasn't feeling too much pain, and to do the deed I went to her regular Vet as the Emergency Vet closes in the mornining).

When I brought her home all those years ago I was taking/took responsibility for her well being for her entire life. She became part of my family. I have done the best I could for her all these years. With her passing I have aquitted my responsibility for her. Now she is in the hands of God.

And you did a wonderful job over the last 12 years. So sorry to hear about this, Ted.

So very sorry to hear this. I love dogs and Airdales are one of my favorite breeds. I've gone through it too many times, (once is too many), you have my sympathy and condolences. Your love for your dogs and the type of dog owner shows what a good person you are, IMO. Take care of yourself.

too bad, tough to lose a dog after 12 years, like a family member.

Like the airdales, smart, lotsa personality

God Speed to a fine rodent catcher...

Tabs, I feel your pain. I had to put my cat to sleep on the 11th of this month. Whe was a little over 20 years old. Whether it be 12 or 20 years, they are a real part of the family. She was a lucky dog, and you were lucky to have her loving companionship for 12 years.

Brillo 06-29-2007 08:03 PM

Very sorry to hear. They are truly our companions.

Dottore 06-29-2007 08:30 PM

Very sorry to hear this Tabs. My condolences.

Sorry to hear Tabs......my condolances.

Airedales are phenomenal dogs - we had 2 when I was growing up and neither made it to "old" age. The dogs have so much character and spirit - it was absolutely devastating to lose them. Condolences indeed...

Today the shock is wearing off and the reality is setting in. The house is quiet the house is still. I miss her, she had become a fixture in my life, something I could always count on being there. Now shes gone and there is an emptiness where she once was. Then I start to feel that I loved her and it makes it all right. I did what I could do.

Yesterday was a very bad day.

Milu 07-01-2007 09:39 AM

I'm sorry Tabs, we know what she meant to you.

Yesterday I just cried. I cried because I had to give the order to put her down, I cried because I Loved her, I cried because I missed her and I cried because I had her since she was a puppy and its inconceivable that she is gone. Each time I cried it was resolving one issue about her passing, understanding this helps but it doesn't make it any easier to deal with emotionally. That U just have to go through it and in that sense life is a blizard of pain, because we all have to deal with the death of living things that we love sooner or later. The song "Hurt" that Johnny Cash did before he died had the line, "Everyone goes away in the end."

Just saw this. So sorry Tabs. You've lost both dogs in about a year, right? That's awful. Tough to say goodbye to a friend. Glad you could be there for her.

This teared me up.

I will spoil my old buddy Chance a little extra tomorrow.

I like that picture. It's a sad old thing Tabs, think of the happy memories. You have to love the terriers, best dogs ever ;)

Shaun @ Tru6 07-02-2007 05:31 AM

you can tell from her confident, relaxed pose, the look on her face, ears up, how happy she was your dog. Your love for her really shows Ted.

"Everyone goes away in the end."

But you get to meet up again, that's the best part of life. You'll see her again.

My lab rott mix is now 12. Her favorite thing is for me to hold my arm out, she jumps up and puts her paws on my arm, then spins around putting her back to my legs giving me the privilege to rub her belly. She does this all in one motion like a ballerina. The other day she didn't have the strength to stand up. I've got about 2 years to make them the best for her.
