Check out the new toy

2007 Subaru WRX STI Limited. My first impression is this thing is fast and can handle just about anything you throw at it. My 930 is stock and so far my little bit of driving it feels equivalent. It isn't like the 930 where you have to find the sweet spot for it to settle and floor it through, this you just point and shoot. It's my new summer daily driver and I'll keep the 4Runner for the winters.

Very nice, but think about putting 4 snow tires on it & using it for your winter driver. I have an AWD VW R32 & it is incredible with snow tires in the winter. Great fun!

But be warned, there are lots of "mods" you can do to a WRX -- now you will have 2 cars that scream for your time & $.

Did the Duc sell? Was that a part of this strategic move?

Nice car, you'll love it

FastCarFan - There have been lots of people telling me to put snow tires on it. Who knows, after I drive it a while I may just do that. As of now I don't plan on modding it, but I'm sure that'll change in time.

kaisen - Well, sort of. I sold the Duc cause we have a couple little kids and I didn't ride it much. Now I can pick up the kids and carve the twisties when they're not around. Kind of a 'best of both worlds'.

You suck!!!

When do I get to drive it?

I like the understated nature of it. Stealth mode hot rod.

I love the car (I drove a regular STI and it is amazingly tight), but good gawd, it is *not* a pretty vehicle. Luckily you don't have to look at it from behind the wheel

Thanks guys! I had quite a nice long ride in it the other day and I got lots of compliments on the road with it. A couple Mustang GT's wanted to play, but I was just cruisin'. Besides I'm still getting used to it. So I just let them go by.

I was messing with some settings and I could set the shift points. I set it at 6400 RPM where the light comes on. But the really cool thing about it is there is a beeping noise that I turned on too. So at 6400 the light comes on and it starts beeping. This is really neat cause I don't have to take my eyes off the road to know when to shift.

Wayne - I may bring it to Gingerman. But I'll let you drive it next time your around. It's a lot of fun!

Were you able to delete the wing as an option? All the ones I've seen here have that god-awful thing on the back. I think your's looks great!

Dottore - I don't like those wings either. This is the limited edition ones come stock with the small wing that I have. They only made 800 of these limited edition ones. 400 white and 400 gray.

Nice ride, Bill. I've wanted one of those for a DD, too. Out of curiosity, how is insurance for the Subie? Yes, yes, I realize that rates will vary depending on multiple factors. But how does it compare to the other vehicles you own?

Dottore: even if you can't delete the wing on the non-Limited edition WRX STis, I'm sure you could easily arrange for a swap with the buyer of a "lesser" WRX (and maybe pocket some extra change, too) for the smaller wing.

There is a guy in our PCA group that has an STi with , what he tells me, over 500HP. I 've driven it and he could be right. It is incredibly quick.

He takes the big wing off when he feels like messin' with the kids.

Oh, he's pushing 70 years old and is a retired Chrysler engineer and he's got a 2001 911 Turbo that he disconnected the front driveshafts as he thought Porsches should only be rear wheel drive.

It's really not that bad. It's about the same as my '98 Toyota 4Runner, but just a little more. It's around $425/6mo full coverage. Really in my case it's really more like $475/yr cause I'll cancel the ins for the winter months and drive the 4Runner. They charge me $50 for 6months storage.

Trust me, Bill, it's wicked fast!!

I was thinking we should get his list of mods and apply them to yours.
Woohoo!!

The nitrous sprayed intercooler was the strangest setup I have seen but it works.

At least the Limited version does away with the mondo basket handle rear spoiler...

Nice car -- I was considering a WRX/STi earlier this year, but instead got my Ford Sport Trac, so I can haul my other toy to the racetrack:

Can't do that with a Subbie...
-Z-man.

PS: As a former Subaru Legacy owner, I am sure you will be amazed by your car's ability in the snow as well as how reliable it is.

Road and Track already compared the Mazdaspeed 3 to a lesser WRX, and the Mazda spanked the WRX dearly everywhere but the snow.

Eh! It doesn't matter, really. Both are cool cars.
